BuddyPress 1.0.2
June 24, 2009 in News
BuddyPress 1.0.2 is out now.
As with previous upgrades, the best way to get the latest is through the plugin browser in your WordPress installation (de-activate BuddyPress before auto-upgrading).
If you are using a language file with your installation you will need to re-download this after your upgrade. From version 1.1 onwards, we’ll bundle as many language files as possible to make the upgrade process smoother for non-english installations.
If you would like to upgrade manually you can download the latest then simply overwrite your existing plugin files (and themes if you are using the defaults). Please make sure you backup everything first.
This is not a critical upgrade, so it is not essential that you install this update. It does however fix a number of bugs that will improve your BuddyPress experience. For a full list of fixes, please see the updated release history.
Update: Please make sure you de-activate any 3rd party BuddyPress plugins before deactivating BuddyPress and running the auto-update.

Will take a look at this ASAP but I need to get my current project working 100% on Version 1.0.1 first. Thanks for the update though!

Thanks Andy, The upgrade went seamlessly without any intervention from me. I always panic when upgrading stuff, thinking I’m going to have to manually fix things
Awesome work.

I tried to upgrade but the wordpress MU plugin browser says I have the latest version even though it states I have BuddyPress 1.0.1

Micrositer: You may have to wait until your WPMU install pings for plugin updates, or manually install.

was the sitewide activiy bug fix included in this update?

The list of fixes is the last link on the post.

Cool. Thanks Andy. I’m assuming it’s this update:
Fixed bugs that would cause activity feeds to not validate.

@Andy – Which version of bbPress are you recommending we try to use for integration purposes…?
We downloaded this latest release desperate to see how improved the Forum integration read me was, but are still knocking our heads against walls trying to get these two to play nice together…
Please Andy please, say that this will get real easier real soon…?
Either way, BuddyPress is certainly going to change the shape of things to come, that’s for sure – your Cooking with BuddyPress presentation was very exciting stuff…

Im kind of a newbie and I worry that updating might break something as my BP community is already live and I cannot afford to start again.
I am still on BP 1.0 and was planning to update 1.0.1 this weekend. If I backup my database and the wp-contents folder (where BP is installed), will I be able to recover fully in case something goes wrong while updating? Or should I take some more precautions?
Also, can I update directly from BP 1.0 to 1.0.2 without having to go through 1.0.1 first?
Thanks!

Kunal17: You should be fine, but backup your entire installation – all your files and your database first. You can go directly from 1.0 to 1.0.2.

NI-Limits: Forum integration will improve, take a look at the roadmap.

Will wait for version 1.1, since my web is installed in other language.

with WP-Minify be sure to exclude
/wp-content/bp-themes/bpmember/style.css
or else it will fail (because the function that sheet performs requires it not to be rebundled elsewhere and wp-minify doesn’t fail gracefully)

As always, great work. We’ve been up and running since 1.0 and have had a great experience so far. This is our first upgrade we’ve made, and I noticed that the bp_forums_filter_decode() function was removed from bp-forums/bp-forums-filters.php (we installed bbpress and the forum support).
After upgrading to 1.0.2 and checking out our forums, all of the posts had bbpress encoding like [p]blah[/p] (the same for new posts I made after the upgrade). When I added the function back in, then it started showing up as intended without the fake-html tags.
Did I miss something in the docs about this? Or perhaps I should just keep the decoding function in there?
Thanks!

Steve: Make sure you move the new /buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress-plugins/buddypress-enable.php to your bbPress plugin folder and overwrite the existing one.
If you still see a similar problem with “p and /p” then you need to upgrade the xmllib library on your server. More information here: http://josephscott.org/archives/2009/03/conclusion-of-libxml2-issues-use-php-529-libxml2-273/

Hey Andy,
I didn’t get the [p] problem until upgrading to BP 1.0.2.
Any idea why?

Hey Andy,
Just an update to my comment.
I forgot to update the BuddyPress Support plugin for bbPress because the version number was identical to the one in BP 1.0.1.
Overwriting the old plugin fixed the problem!
