  1. Oh yeah, that’s great!
    Thank you, Andy!

  2. Requests for an invitation to friends in the group is still not working.
The problem with BuddyBar in admin panel remains relevant
And what did you do all this time?

  3. Received a Fatal Error in bp-activity.php on line 52

Running latest WPMU with all plugins disabled. Upgrade appeared to go fine, but when I Activate BuddyPress I get:

Cannot redeclare bp_activity_install (previously declared in …wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-activity.php)

  4. Just a quick note – the first link in this post goes to buddypres (missing the final s).

    Congrats on the release!

  5. Hi, just thought I’d let you know that I had th previous version installed and not activated. When I saw the upgrade was available, I chose the backend of admin panel option for the one click upgrade. It failed to upgrade but that aint all. It is also acting as if the previous install is not there. It totally disappeared although I’m looking dead at it in FTP. Bizarre.

  6. Good news!
    Thank you Andy!

  7. Fabulous! Well done Andy.

  8. automatic upgrade works great on one site (after a little error message: Fatal error: Cannot redeclare bp_activity_install() (previously declared ….bp-activity.php on line 52). Just reload and everything works !

On to our next site !

Congrats on yet another milestone guys !

  9. We appreciate the work.
    Thanks.

  10. What’s up w/ http://i18n.svn.buddypress.org/? I can’t upload 1.1.3 translation, while did it successfully 5 days ago. Access is forbidden (403) now…
I’m writing here because I can’t do it in forum post – again. Too tired to clear cache and cookies.

  11. Great jobs Andy, waiting for budypress that worked on wordpress :D

  12. Great, thanks!
Everything is cool, but i lost my site wide activity feed (Page Not Found).
Did i made my own mistake or it is a bug?

  13. Mixa: This has not been a widely reported problem, it’s likely something specific to your installation. In any case please file a bug explaining how to reproduce and we’ll look at it.

  14. Activation problems that some people are experiencing can be avoided by first deactivating BuddyPress before upgrading. This will be fixed in WPMU 2.9.

  15. SlaFFik: I haven’t touched anything with the repo. I will check the access control list again.

  16. I am getting this same fatal error (Fatal error: Cannot redeclare bp_activity_install() (previously declared in /home/wumc/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-activity.php:19) in /home/wumc/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-activity.php on line 52)!

I tried reloading (refresh in the browser) but that did not help. The only other reloading I understand is to upload the files again. Is that what you mean @superbloggernl?

  17. Ok, I deleted the buddypress folder and re-uploaded the folder and now it works just fine.

Now, however, after re-activating some plug-ins I am getting a blank page. Any clues?

  18. fyi- bp deactivated prior to upgrade still resulted in same Fatal error on activation. – Cannot redeclare bp_activity_install() …..bp-activity.php on line 52.

  19. Deleting and then again installing bp allowed activation. Also got an error when attempting to upgrade and activate bp-groupblog plugin. It is also a site-wide plugin. Deleted bp-groupblog and then installed and successfully activated sitewide. Since both plugins are site-wide I’d guess their activation errors might be related. No problem upgrading a few other non-sitewide plugins today. All is working well now.

  20. I just think maybe you guys can spend a little time on the theme when the next version was released.currently You can see 2 column,3 column,4 column pages , It’s so complicated and make a new theme not that easy.

    btw , i think 3 column or 2 is enough .

    thanks.

  21. Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare bp_blogs_install() (previously declared in …/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-blogs.php on line 94

I deactivated the plugin before upgrading. *shrug*

will try to delete Buddypress and re activate it. *crosses fingers*

  22. ouch, deleted buddypress via plugin page and now admin pages don’t load.

  23. Using FTP went through my list of buddypress related plugins deleting them and found the problem. The forum subscription plugin. It was giving a function error in the logs. I’m surprised since the plugin was deactivated.

  24. Does the forum subscription plugin not work with 1.1.3? I had the same problem, removed all plug-ins and then finally realized that I needed to activate BP. Once I did that all worked, but then to get the site back to what it was before the upgrade I uploaded the plugins one at a time, activated each one and by doing that kept the site up and got the site back to functional state.

Isn’t there a better way to upgrade?

  25. Dear Andy, have you planned to launch some similar-to bp-picture-album functionality in a non far future? I’ve seen this mentioned in a few forums or tracs and in others it doesn’t seem so.

Thanks for your time and effort!

Keep up the good work :)

Same problem here. We no longer have activity feed ……

  27. Awesome – manual upgrade all good.

Thanks to Andy and co for all the great work!!

  28. @roydeanjr

You should contact Boone Gorges, the developer of the plugin:
    http://dev.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

No use posting about it here!

Unfortunately, upgrading will always mean that some plugins will break, which is why it is recommended to deactivate all BP-related plugins.

    @Juan Manuel

I can’t speak for Andy, but the official album plugin will definitely not make it by the end of 2009. If I were to guess, I’d say mid-March 2010.

There are alternatives out there though. Check out the following link for all BP plugins:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/buddypress

  29. Most solid version yet, however, the admins can’t delete items from their own or ones profile feed. It takes them to a 404 error page and the item doesn’t delete.

  30. this site very good.
    thanks admin

  31. Okay, seriously guys, this was the easiest upgrade yet. Kudos. Great job.

    *NO GLITCHES*

    Just clean, easy sailing.

  32. In private messages there is an error with quotes.
    “hello, world” -> »hello, world»

  33. Loooove it =)

  34. Good news!
    Thank you Andy!

  35. hi Andy, I would read the
Useful Pages −>Upgrading from BuddyPress 1.0.x
    in: http://buddypress.org/
but the link go in an Error! page, “This blog has been archived or suspended.”
    (at this url: http://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/upgrading-from-10x/ )
Where can I find some info on how upgrade? please…
    thank you! :-)
    alcina

  36. Thanks for the upgrade! Yikes that quite a number of people have difficulties with this – but I guess that has to be expected with any update. On my end everything is working fine. :)

  37. I’m getting the same problems as Jack. Admins can’t delete Group posts. It takes them to a 404 page.

  38. Worked perfectly!

  39. @r-a-y

Thank you for your answer! Sadly I’ll have to wait for this plugin since the other options do not work properly yet in the latest release or do not gather all the basic needs…

Nevertheless, and returning to the posts main theme, it’s great what Andy and de crew have accomplished in this release.

    Congrats!

  40. Andy: This has not been a widely reported problem, it’s likely something specific to your installation. In any case please file a bug explaining how to reproduce and we’ll look at it.

When i try to invite friends to the group (http://sitename.com/groups/groupname/send-invites/) it shows me:

    “Select friends
    No friends to invite”

    But I have friends!

  41. And another problem…
In the BuddyPress settings is a field
    “Show BuddyBar to unauthorized users?”
I choose the option “No”, but it changes nothing. BuddyBar visible to unauthorized users!

  42. And finally …

BuddyBar comes over to the AdminBar. Look http://twitpic.com/ovr7c

I have checked in all browsers

I solve this problem by editing the wp-admin.css. (Adding to the AdminBar-styles properties: margin-top: 28px)

  43. 2 very-very-very useful things :

    1. bb-press widget for home page (widget for original bb-press doesn’t work with bp1.1). i am saying about 10 latest topics at forum
    2. posting pictures in forums

  44. Andy, I see you working on the new design.
    It looks great, but…

    a) my theme is based on the old bp default: http://netzkritzler.de with two sidebars. Do I have to change everything if I want to use the new theme? This would be a lot of work.

    b) Will the admin have the possibility to set a filter by default? I Don’t like the sozial-network stuff where everybody can see what other’s are doing, but only want the posts and no other activity being displayed on the home and on the profiles.

    c) Is there any chance (now and with the new theme) to get the posts in the profile, if the activity-function is deactivated? How?

    Thanks
    Rita

  45. Sadly I find upgrading reminiscent of the early days with WP it’s a seemingly hit or mis affair

It’s really nice that it’s trouble free for some, yet more importantly for others it isn’t and it’s the issues encountered that cause concern and make one so very wary of upgrading.

I have the error mentioned earlier ‘Fatal error: Cannot redeclare bp_activity_install()’
I religiously followed the upgrade advice ensuring all plugins were deactivated, upgrade went smoothly until attempting to re-activate buddypress which resulted in above error.
Attempted to rectify by re-installing buddypress files (not that logically that should make a difference) tried renaming function in hope that it would not try and run again also simply removed function, all to no avail .

What I have found utterly perplexing is that despite, ‘seemingly’, buddypress not being reactivated i.e it will not feature itself as an activated plugin in sitewide plugin listing the site does actually appear to be running just as before with all buddypress features working normally, this , in my newbiness to BP and MU, I can’t explain. I was able to reactivate all disabled plugins one by one and they too , especially where they were BP reliant, appear to activate without issue.

I now hesitate to upgrade my primary dev install let alone the production site as I simply can’t afford to spend the sort of time it has cost me this morning, but that is a worry as it’s not an attitude I like having.

I suppose that I have missed something along the way and perhaps with more experience with MU/BP I might have a better idea of how to rectify this.

I hasten to add that I’m impressed overall with the work put into BP, and it has definitely got a bright future. I have to roll with things now as we are committed to platform change, but I am feeling rather nervous :-)

    • Hugo – the problem you are describing was an issue with site wide plugin activation in WordPress MU. If you upgrade to version 2.9 when it is released, you should find that the issue is fixed.

  46. @ Andy

Thanks for the reply Andy I had a feeling it might be down to the site wide plugins and by that I presume we are talking about the ‘mu-plugins’ folder and various auto activated plugins therein. Not sure – short of removing the files – how one is meant to deactivate them though but that may be my lack of understanding at present.

Do I take it then that the fact that I couldn’t get BP to reactivate yet it appeared to function correctly and also plugins reliant on it being active also happily reactivated means that the issue is with the admin plugin page and seemingly just a case that it’s unable to perform the last stage in displaying as a correctly listed active plugin?

I shall be waiting I think for MU 2.9 before attempting any further upgrades, unless I can establish just which plugin in mu-plugins is causing the issue for my local install.

  47. Noticed a serious problem at the level of the concept .. namely – the algorithm for sending messages from user to user:
    1) introduction of information about the message in the DB
    2) sending mail (if the recipient in the settings including alarm)
    3) issuing the message “Message sent)

So the problem is that sending mail could be long .. depends on its work (an analysis of access, spam, server load, and etc.)

But at the same time – sending the message data in the database, you can safely say “Message sent”! And then send mail …

On his blog described the problem with sending mail using sendmail, but need to change the concept ..?

  48. BuddyPress 1.1.3 works with WordPress MU 2.9.1, but there is a problem in plugins .. the majority had to give ..

    Andy,
In version 1.2 pays special attention to the issue of support IE 7,8? Serious problems with Ajax in the majority of clients with IE .. and this browser is a leader and not soon will deposit their positions ..
Settings Web-servers do not solve all the problems ..

  49. Yes this the problem you are describing was an issue with site wide plugin

  50. This is very useful

bb-press widget for home page (widget for original bb-press doesn’t work with bp1.1). i am saying about 10 latest topics at forum

    thnx
