Apologies if this question has been answered in a really obviously place and I’ve just missed it – but what is the difference between installing BuddyPress on WordPress, and installing it on WordPress MU?

Just want to say I appreciate the work that you and others have done to date. We are so excited to work with Buddypress 1.2 and WordPress. we are just finishing the basics of “The Republic of Boon” you can find it here:

As soon as we get a breather We want to contribute help to the project. One thing that I believe we have solved for ourselves is the splogger problem that many are having it has been about a week but we have not been getting any sploggers on the system.

I'd like to ditto Art, whose comment is just above mine. I'd love to see a side by side comparison of what BuddyPress does in WP and what it does in WPMU. I want to build community into my business blog, but I do not want users to have the blogging option. I don't know much about MU, is there an option to turn off user blogs in MU? If so will there still be greater benefit of community using MU and buddyPress instead of single WP and buddyPress?

Andy,

Your initial writeup mentions that the beta will run on WP or WP MU.

However, the requirements section for the shipping release requires MU.

Can I install on a straight WP site? If so, what functionality would be missing?

Great job! I was able to successfully upgrade to 1.2 beta without a single issue. Creating a child theme is so easy! Thanks!!

I just have a problem with the language interface. My site is in French so I downloaded the buddypress-fr_FR.po/.mo files and now my frontend appears in French, that’s great! However, the WP admin remains in English even though I am using the French language pack. I am also using qTranslate, but on some of my blogs, it is not activate and yet the interface still shows in English in wp-admin.

Any ideas why that would do that?
