As you may or may not be aware, the Codex has recently been undergoing some major improvements. If you haven’t seen it yet, please check it out: http://codex.buddypress.org. Many thanks to mercime for leading the redesign/reorganization charge. Kudos to @mercime for leading the charge.

Now that the basic structure is in place, the BuddyPress community is invited to pitch in and fill some of the gaps in the documentation. There are some pages (http://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/deleting-buddypress/ for instance) that are just stubs. You’re invited to pitch in and write as much (or as little) as you’d like on those pages. Hit the “Edit This Page” button at the bottom of the page, or go to http://codex.buddypress.org/wp-admin using your buddypress.org username/password.

Here’s a guide to some of the notes currently found in the codex, courtesy of @mercime:

For Stub: placeholder due to redesign. Add notice below to Codex page.
[If you are a BuddyPress Developer, you can help BP Codex by writing an article on this topic.]

Draft: do not edit this page, ___ is currently adding content. Add notice below to Codex page.
[This Codex article will be expanded at a later time by ____.]

Note: The Stub and Draft notices above are due to Codex redesign. For new Codex pages, it is good practice to save Codex page as Draft first, then publish the page only when the article has been completed.

Copyedit: edit needed due to upgrade or other reason. Add notice below to Codex page.
[This article is marked as in need of editing. You can help BP Codex by editing it.]

Excellent news – except I don’t see an edit button – sniff – no ninja skills maybe :(

    @LPH2005

Edit button appears at bottom left when you’re logged in :-)

  • Profile picture of LPH2005 LPH2005 said 1 year, 7 months ago:

@pcwriter not for me. Logged in. Can go to /wp-admin – and only see “your profile” and tools menu that allows enabling gears. Nothing else :(

@LPH2005 “Edit This” link is at footer of the front end of each specific codex page when you’re logged in, not at the back end. Looking forward to your additions :-)

@pcwriter Perhaps you’d like to tackle the The BP Admin Bar with respective components and links? :-)

@boonebgorges Thank you for your leadership. In addition to stub you mentioned above re deleting BP, other stubs like http://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/bp-custom-php/ and http://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/backing-up-your-database-and-files/ among others need to be filled up. Will be posting a new walk-through for using BP Template Pack within this week. Thanks again.

Hiya gang – Paul’s suggestion about bpdevel was a good one, so I put up a post just now: http://bpdevel.wordpress.com/2010/10/06/help-improve-the-buddypress-codex/

Oh, and @LPH2005 – Can you contact me off the boards with your wp.org email address and username so I can add you as an Editor to the Codex? It should happen automatically but for some reason you’re not listed as a member. http://twitter.com/boonebgorges My Twitter handle at gmail

Hehe .. sure Boone (email in a bit) .. I was laughing at everyone telling me to look in the footer when I knew something else wasn’t set for me :)

Update: Poorly worded. I was not laughing AT people but at the situation. Insert keyboard in mouth syndrome.

I’ll try and make a nice write up of deleting buddypress tomorrow! Just to be surem this is the right procedure to do it right?

1: De-activate all plugins that are made for BuddyPress
    2: Deactivate BuddyPress itself
    3: remove the plugin folder
4: Go into phpmyadmin and remove the bp_ tables
    5: Drink beer

Or is there something I’m forgetting?

  • Profile picture of Boone Gorges Boone Gorges said 1 year, 7 months ago:

Sounds right to me, Bowe. Especially the beer part. Speaking of which, I think I’m done working for the day….

Beer is a requirement for BuddyPress!

@bowromir if you’re going to writing up instructions to – what may well be – newbs then take great care when explaining how to access a DB especially through the phpMyAdmin interface, give clear warnings about backing up before undertaking any tasks in phpMyAdmin especially tasks that involve dropping tables – it’s all too easy to drop the DB if not paying attention.

It just occurred to me that possibly writing a simple sql statement to cover dropping of all BP tables might be a safer approach, something that could be run as a script.
