Buddypress vs. Drupal Commons vs. Ning vs. …
Public Group active 2 weeks, 5 days ago agoTo compare the relative merits of Buddypress, Drupal Commons, Telligent, Tiki Wiki, Ning, ExpressionEngine and other comparable community building products. I’ve created separate topics to compare each separate product with Buddypress. I profess to be no expert on the various products. But I’ve written down what I perceive to be some of the salient differences of each product with Buddypress. Feel free to disagree and share your own insights. I hope this set of product comparisons will spur the Buddypress development community to greater heights of innovation. It may be painful to see that Buddypress has competition. But Buddypress, with its tie-in with Wordpress, also has huge assets. Buddypress developers should be diligent in scanning and learning from the competition. And in keeping with the philosophy of open source development, that discovery can most benefit the Buddypress community if done openly.

Drupal commons can learn a lot from buddypress concerning design and usabilty. Check out this link for more information (http://wiitel.com/cms/node/23). Even with the upcoming drupal 7 release, drupal is way behind in terms of a social network software.
