BuddyPress

Hi, I think it would be amazing to have a feature on BuddyPress that has a live chat with the ability to talk only to your friends. Similar to what facebook has. This feature is very key towards social networking and activity throughout ones site.

Look at ‘cometchat’ for buddypress. It’s a premium plugin you pay for but it’s as close to facebook chat as possible. Very easy to install and reliable!

Not interested in a feature like this to be premium. BuddyPress is a free social networking software, if it wasn’t then I would certainly buy that premium feature.

Sometimes ya just gotta pay for functionality. There isn’t an alternative to this that works as well but good luck with your solution!

Brajesh at Buddydev is developing bp-chat. From some bits & pieces around the forums, it sounds like it will be something very similar to cometchat, but a free plugin.

you may try bowob.com – quite nice chat module – very similar to FB chat and some interesting config options.
It has both free and paid versions.

Brajesh at Buddydev sucks slows down things,show people online even they ar not ,and lots of bugs
he update the plugin all the time and nothing all bugs still there …i hate it and will never use it again

I’m using BoWoB http://www.bowob.com/ its a plugin for wordpress but works good with Buddypress as well, not a buddypress addon or anything but it works and its free.

@Histrion: You may have missed this on Buddydev’s site, but they clearly list the plugin as beta (beta 5 is the latest) and specifically indicate that the current release is not intended for live sites, but rather for testing to identify issues and improve the plugin:

“Bp chat is a facebook like chat plugin for BuddyPress. Currently, we have a beta release of it. I won’t say It is good enough for live sites yet, but yes, you can try your hands and help me improve it.”
