Email Activation not being sent in upgraded BP 1.2.2 (13 posts)

    Hi all

First off a HUGE thumbs up to all involved in the BuddyPress project – it’s a phenomenal development & we’re loving it!

I have just upgraded our single user installation (running on WP 2.9.2) to BP 1.2.2. We are using the BP-Default theme.

The reason I rushed into the upgrade was to implement the new member email activation fix as mentioned in the change log (Fixed inconsistencies with new account activation between WordPress MU and standard WP. All new accounts must now be activated to confirm a valid email is being used.)

However two test registrations, using different email addresses (both tested as valid) produced no email activation messages. Am I missing a setting somewhere that needs to be in place in order to achieve this feature on a single installation site?

Secondly – is there a way to implement a redirect or a message of some sort to users who have registered but not yet activated their account? At the moment, trying to login with one of the new not activated accounts simple sends the user back to the home page. Something along the lines of a “Your account still needs to be activated, please follow the instructions in the email sent to your address”.

And finally – if 1 and 2 above are solvable, would the addition of a “resend activation email” link somewhere be out of the question as a further enhancement to the system?

Both these test accounts are passed to the WP user list and appear under the users settings in the admin dashboard as expected.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

P.S. System emails are still being sent without problems – received email notification of a private message from the site so don’t think that’s a problem.

Okay main the problem has been resolved in 1.2.2.1 – thanks!

Any thoughts on the other two questions?

Redirect / message for non-activated accounts?
    Resend of activation email?

I had the same problem a few seconds ago. A newly registered member didn’t recieved the activation email but was listed in Wordpress>Backend>Users

I asked the user to check spam inbox twice but there was stil no activation mail :)

It would be great if admins could manually acivate such users or resent the activation email.

You might want to join this group for part of what you’ve requested (the admin resend of activation emails/activating manually): http://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/over-1000-not-activated-users-what-do-you-suggest-we-do-with-them/

Seems like he could add the redirect to the plugin as well. I don’t think it would be too hard.

I just installed BP 1.2.3 over WP 2.9.2 and have the same initial problem…. Activation Mails are not being sent… Anyone knows how to solve it?

I’m having the same thing happen… just tried twice. Used gmail addresses… emails never arrived to either account (yes, I checked SPAM).

Frustrating, don’t think I can launch until this is fixed now.

    Problem was a NOT-installed Mailserver on a v-server :-(

    Hi everyone!

So, a +1 request from me for the second point: “is there a way to implement a redirect or a message of some sort to users who have registered but not yet activated their account? At the moment, trying to login with one of the new not activated accounts simple sends the user back to the home page. Something along the lines of a “Your account still needs to be activated, please follow the instructions in the email sent to your address.”

I’m working for a client who is having a MAJOR freak out because logins that aren’t activated silently fail to the home page without an error message. For now, I just activated BP-DISABLE-ACTIVATION and am putting a captcha on the e-mail but it’s not an airtight solution; the client would still like to verify that an e-mail is legitimate.

If I’m looking in the wrong place, let me know. Many thanks! :)

I’m +1 on the need for a solution too. I seem to always get the email without it going to spam. I also notice some repeat spam / sploggers in the email addresses. I have used WP-Activate-Users but I’d like an option to resend the activation or delete them.

I need this solution too. activation email is not going to users.
