I have wordpress 3.1 with plug-in buddypress 1.2.8 installed. My plan is to have a social network with the users having a page and a main page and also a legit forum. I saw that bbpress could be integrated but I have been having a ton of trouble integrating them with sharing cookies. I originally just made a page called “forums” and changed the permalink so the page of the bbpress forum but I couldn’t get it to integrate the logins and there was some issues with cookies and other things that I don’t understand. Is there a simple way of doing this? Bbpress seems to have less support than buddypress though it seems to do what I want better…but rather than changing my whole system later I would rather get buddypress working now if there is a way. Is there a simple forum plug-in or something I can install to have a “forum” page? Thx for the help.

    Hi,

Integration with wordpress can seem a bit complicated. I really suggest watching this :

The only difference is he is running an older version – but the process is pretty much identical. Instead of looking for the salt keys as he did though, you will see that they are generated for you and you can just paste them in (you’ll see what I mean).

    Hope that helps!

how does that help me with buddypress though? do I simply add the plug-in and it works?

There’s the external bbPress integration with BuddyPress which is the tougher route and then there’s the internal bbPress integration with BuddyPress that’s built-in and tied in groups. The last time I ever did the external bbPress integration was in BP 1.1.2 and it took around 45 steps over a few hours because of some hiccups in integration along the way. Since then, it’s been internal bbPress integration all the way :-)
