I have activated the root profiles modification:
3. Put BuddyPress Profiles in the Root – ie. http://example.org/username/

Add this line to your wp-config.php file:
define ( ‘BP_ENABLE_ROOT_PROFILES’, true );

However, I now want to be able to stop people signing up with the following usernames: members, activity, about

(i.e I don’t want member name/page conflicts)

How can I stop this?

another thing you could try is just create the user accounts in the admin for the page slugs and then not login with them and it won’t activate those accounts
