I suspect most of you know me from the wp-polyglots mailing list, where I help coordinate the localization and translation efforts for WordPress.

In the name of relieving the BuddyPress core developers from i18n burdens (particularly those developers whose first name is Andy), I’ll be at your disposal for helping out in all i18n questions from now on.

The way we thought it’d make more sense, and if everyone is ok with it, is to start using the wp-polyglots mailing list for two types of requests:

Those having to do with locale.buddypress.org blogs
Those having to do with commit access to the BuddyPress i18n Subversion repository

I suspect all other discussions can probably take place in these very forums. As to the rest, we’ll just see how it goes. This all means that if you haven’t joined already, it’s probably a good idea to join the wp-polyglots mailing list .

As always, comments and suggestions are very welcome.

Sure, it works for me, but I think subscribing to wp-polyglots might be kind of an overkill for people not involved in translating WordPress, as they are probably going to end up getting a lot of messages beyond their area of interest. Maybe a separate mailing list would be better? I know it probably wouldn’t be very active at this point, but it might gain some momentum later on. :)

    Cheers!

    Hello,

    A basic/naive question : is there somewhere a pot file ?
I’ve done WP translation several times for mupersonnal need (I’m Franceh) and I could do that for buddypress

The .POT file is in the /bp-languages directory in the repository, so that the file for 1.2.1 is here, for example:

    http://svn.buddypress.org/tags/1.2.1/bp-languages/buddypress.pot

So, what’s up with the mailing list? Are we sticking to wp-polyglots?

In fact, the forums are OK, too, however e-mail is much more convenient, at least for me.

Stick to wp-polyglots for the moment, yes.

    Hi all,

as many of yours, i recently updated my install to wpmu 2.9.2 after the last BP 1.2.1 upgrade.
Anoying was to see that – once again – WPMU’s admin wasn’t translated in some corners…
So i took the time to make some investigation, and find the “x factor”.
Yes: x is the cause !

I declared _x in poEdit but this did not work.
    in 2.8.6 there are _c
    in 2.9.2 we have _x
Can somebody explain these changes and how they are supposed to work ?

What i found and i did is related here:

    Hi
I can contribute to the Swedish translation. I have joined the wp-polyglots mailing list.

  • Profile picture of t.sjogren t.sjogren said 1 year, 11 months ago:

I have sent a mail to wp-polyglots mailing list asking for access to update the Swedish translation. Awaiting further instructions.

    @vanillalounge and @jeffsayre
I have sent two mails to ‘wp-polyglots’ and have not received any reply regarding access to the Swedish translation, can you look into this please.
    I would like to:
    - Add a ‘locale blog’ (http://buddypress.org/community/groups/localization/forum/topic/buddypressorg-locale-blogs/)
    - Update the files in http://i18n.svn.buddypress.org/sv_SE/
    - Update the text in this page http://codex.buddypress.org/translations/swedish-svenska-sv_se/
    - Upload .po file to http://translate.wordpress.org/projects/buddypress/dev/sv/default
Please mail me/reply to this post when this is solved.

    @tsjogren -

Have you tried contacting @jobjorn ? He was listed as the one in charge of the Swedish translation. But, I think it never got created. You should check in with @apeatling and @johnjamesjacoby as they control access to the BP repository.

    Hi Jeff
I have been in contact with @jobjorn several times. He encouraged me to update the files and pages, so we agreed on this together. He has also recived copies of my e-mails to ‘wp-polyglots’.
@apeatling and @johnjamesjacoby. Please contact me so i can share my updated translation that is now complete.
Please mail me at t.sjogren@gmail.com (the mention-function does not work for my @t.sjogren handle se this post for more info: http://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/username-differs-from-bp-handle-when-registration-is-done-in-wordpress-backend/

Yeah, @t.sjogren has been in contact with me already. I have no time to work on anything BuddyPress-related – or for that matter, barely anything web-related at all – at the moment, so I’m glad that someone else picks up the ball.
