I am asking a very basic question here, but would like to see if there are any successful communities created using Buddypress?

Have you guys seen any serious community built using Buddypress? Most of the ‘featured’ sites in Buddypress site have no serious participation (except for maybe educational sites, but those are more professors driven and less by choice).

Would love to see some real social network coming from Buddypress and inspiration one can derive from these.

And what would be your definition of a “real social network”?

I’m not really seeing a buddypress driven site become as big as facebook or twitter w/o some serious original ideas etc.
Seeing that BuddyPress can be setup by anyone.

We are very successful and only 6 months in evolution at 1,200 members with a 70% active participant number (at least once every 2 weeks). The site is specifically for Music Education. You can check it out at musicpln[dot]org You’ll have to sign up to see it though (free sign-up).

    Regards.

Compared to what facebook? Nobody will ever reach what facebook has achieved. And really who would want to? I have a few close friends on FB but could careless what the other users are doing. BuddyPress is more to create groups of interest. That’s it’s power over FB. Also you can control the experience, FB is generic.

I don’t know about that, I think someone will pass FB up, not sure when, but they’ll get some competition that’ll have them shaking in their boots lol

    I hope its me :)

Hey @Andrea_r lol, i remember when you helped me with my first line of BP code….I’ve gotten better, thank you :)
