I need to speed up my site and this looks like it’s worth a shot. I’ve got a lot of css and js where their CDN should make a big improvement. And, there is a wordpress plugin.

Is anyone having any success or problems with cloudflare so far?

Based on the testimonials, cloudflare might help with spam problems, too. Let us know.

I put a cookie free domain on Cloudflare, and put all my static files on this domain.
The whole process goes smoothly, it’s easy to setup.
But I don’t see much speed improvement. Maybe because my site is too small so that the improvement is not obvious.

I set up cloudflare and have to say that I am pretty impressed so far. It took a couple of extra days because I use an SSL, but set up was pretty darn simple.

In terms of speed, Page Speed has improved greatly. My pages used to range from a 64-70 and now I’m seeing 76-88.

YSlow is sporadic – sometimes a better grade, sometimes not. Supposedly, YSlow does not yet categorize Cloudflare as a CDN, but they are in the process of changing that in an upcoming release. So, YSlow may be incorrectly punishing you for not using a CDN when you actually are.

I can say my site feels faster.

As far as details, my Cloudfare dashboard reports that it has “saved” about 40% of bandwidth and about 75% of my total requests. And just in the last 6 hours, it has protected my site from 77 unique threats. (on low security settings).

The minify settings didn’t work for me, but other than that, I didn’t have any problems.

For what it is worth, I don’t use W3TC (because we have multiple databases) and Cloudflare only works on the main domain, not sub-domains. For us, that is fine because we use batcache to protect against traffic spikes. Our only real need was to speed up the main domain, which cloudflare seems to be doing nicely.

I’m trying this now… cloudflare… I’ll let you know what it what… do you also use the wordpress cloudflare plugin with buddypress?

One of my sites is continually attacked by a wayward bot from china… If this could stop that… that would be amazing… the bot is called sogue…

I did install the plugin, but am afraid to hit the “Database Optimize” button because we use multiple databases.

And yes, there is a way to block specific bots and ip addresses

CloudFlare does indeed seem great.. I’ll set it up tomorrow on a site and see how it behaves..

Greg…. looks like some of users are reporting some cache issues…. That is groups that they’ve joined that they have to “rejoin”, but not really… I had this set to aggressive cache, I’m changing it to basic and see if that is an issue still…. There is no way to turn off caching completely with cloudflare….. more later…

I’ve been testing group joining and haven’t seen any problems. But, nothing ever actually is this simple…let us know if you find anything.

What kind of issues? Do you have the WordPress plugin installed? Or mod_cloudflare? I’m wondering if this is because our IPs would be reflected until you made the modifications to get original visitor IP again.

Just tried out cloudflare and I havent noticed anything but greatly increased pagetest scores. Is this too good to be true?

I need to get back into this, but I’ve completely disabled Cloudflare for the time being. I was hiving issues with people that had previously joined groups being asked to join again… This may have been something else causing a problem as I also use w3Total Cache and the two could have been conflicting… I just have not had the time to sort this out yet and I needed to bring back stability.

I’m guessing it’s a W3TC issue with Cloudflare. I’m not using W3TC and have no problems with joining groups, etc.

BEWARE!! CloudFlare so far uses Page Caching, and for buddypress that means you will login and still load the page where you’re not!! and much more problems until the CDNre-caches which takes a lot of time.. hours – day the pages will be OUT OF DATE..

I recommend not using any Page Caching solution with Buddypress… since it’s a live-site.. not a blog.

The best bet is to find a CDN that does NOT cache pages as static.. yet it can save images, scripts, and static data..

it would be another story if cloudflare offers to turn the page caching of manually.. it DOES NOT –_–
