I couldn’t recreate this at the time, I believe. Are you viewing the email on a windows or a mac? (no idea if it would make a difference but I don’t have many ideas)

It’s not going to be addressed for some time. It will require a lot of effort to re-work this particular issue.

Correct, it won’t work with plugins that don’t fully (and properly) implement extensions to WordPress’ user authentication. I can’t really produce bespoke fixes for each of these plugins, because there are a lot of them.

Yes. WP is triggered when a user activates their account; you’re slipping that step by creating users in the backend.

Are you running any plugins that handle user login or authentication?
Also, try adding a trailing slash to the end of the URL
