Yes I can confirm the bug and repeat it…
I did exactly as you suggested. I did a backup of wp_bb_activity table, then I deleted a user and, as expected, the whole activity stream that is related to bpalbum+ was deleted too and YES it was deleted for all users not just the one I’ve removed in admin backend… so, comments, and photo uploads notifications on activity stream don’t show up anymore and are deleted in databes – no rows in wp_bb_activity.
After that I restored the above mentioned table and the activity stream showed up of course, don’t need to mention but still, after the restoring process the previous deleted member did not show up (obviously because the whole bug doesn’t affect the wp_users table).
I did this twice on a unmodified version of buddypress + bpalbum version 0.1.7…
But as far as I can recall from testing purposes of 0.1.9 (but needs more testing) this bug doesn’t affect version 0.1.9 so its just 0.1.7 related.
Update: I tracked down the problem! It happens when you delete a registered member in wp admin options, all bpalbum related entries in wp_bb_activity are automatically deleted.
I don’t know if this is a buddypress or bp-album bug but I assume its bpalbum related because when you delete a user, only all the bp-related rows in wp_bb_activity table are deleted…
found it out the hard way
To be honest, a last couple of weeks I thought about moving to another server (slow server response, frequent downtimes) but hesitated a lot, now things get more clear.
After looking around, I found hostgator.com to be very affordable and acts quite professional. Now do you think it’ll do (when it comes to bpalbum+) ?
And one more question, I know it’s not especially BP album related but just for the record, I gotta ask. Is moving buddypress and bp-album+ the same procedure as moving any other WP plugin? Or do I have to look out for certain things?
Thanks in advance!
@foxly So just to make things clear, upgrading from 0.1.7 to 0.1.9 we will “lose” all member uploaded pictures… they won’t display properly?
Actually you could include an iframe just below the page set which links to custom activity code and solve your problem. but of course, the actual album code is the best solution.
Now, when it comes to output activity in your sidebar, you don’t have to modify the sidebar. Just use the “Buddypress Sitewide Activity Widget” found here: http://buddydev.com/buddypress/buddypress-sitewide-activity-widget-for-buddypress-1-2-and-above/
it a sweet little piece of code
p.s. If you find a way to include actual album code in frontpage, please let me know I also need this badly.
1. Create a wordpress page called (for example album.php)
2. Now copy/paste THIS code into your newly created file album.php
3. Upload the file album.php into your theme folder
4. Now go to Pages, and create a new wordpress page, name it for example Album (watch for you pages permalink) and (this one is important!!!) from the right side you’ll see a dropdown menu called Templates. Klick on it and use the file you just uploaded. In our case, the templates name will be called album (because we specifically named it so in our album.php)
5. Save it and point your browser to your newly created page, and once again this is very important !!! after your link add this: ?afilter=album
e.g. I created a page with above named template and called album … my link for displaying only bp-album activity would be http://www.mywebsite.com/album?afilter=album
hope this helps
p.s. I’m certain there are other ways to do it, but I did it like this and it works (at least for me) like a charm
you can see my live previe here : http://fotografija.ba/slike?afilter=album
I don’t know it this has been suggested before, I did not take the time to read through all the previous posts.
Here is my suggestion. There should be at least about 5 seconds “hover time” – time needed for cursor to be pointed over a thumbnail, so you don’t get the bubbles popped out every time you “hit” an avatar while moving your pointer across the web page – it gets really annoying and prevents reading of posts and forum activity. I think this is really important!
Apart from that, great plugin, keep the good work!
Upgraded, everything works fine thanks @slaFFik
Now, I have a small sugestion. If it’s possible, there should be at least about 5 seconds “hover time” – time needed for cursor to be pointed over a thumbnail, so you don’t get the bubbles popped out every time you “hit” an avatar while moving your pointer across the web page – it gets really annoying and prevents reading of posts and forum activity. I think this is really important!
Apart from that, great plugin, keep the good work!
OK now the bubble box is showing but there are only two fields in the bubble: @usernames (shows username) | Private message… all other fields are not visible. In fact I can not see them under admin menu… here are two screenshots, my english is bad so it’s easier to show it

Hello again, thanks for taking time regarding my issue. Now, I didn’t made any changes to WP or BP core files but I still gave your solution a try. OK, I did everything you said, except that jquerry.js is found in WP installation not BP, but I got the point I downloaded fresh WP 2.9.2 overwritten the old jquery.js file with the new one, but nope… nothing happens. No poppup Maybe it’s some kind of server limitation or something similar, but honestly there’s a little chance for that being the reason because my provider doesn’t put any apache or php limitations, all other plugins work just fine.
Apparently I need to be patient and wait for the 1.0 to come out. Maybe it will solve my bug. If you have any ideas what could be wrong , please let me know.
@thelandman OK, I’ve enabled the plugin again, I’m glad if you could check it out.
thanks for your effort
@slaFFik @thelandman … OK I’ll try to explain… I actually use it on a live site and my site is in root folder… ( http://www.fotografija.ba ) … first I thought the bubble not showing up is a result of heavy editing of my theme, so I installed a fresh buddypress in root /test … no lucky with this too (and yes I’ve put /test in front or ajax url on line 50). Then I went one step further and as thelandman suggested I edited line 50 in ajax.php and “hardcoded” my url but nothing happend. I really have no clue what could cause the problem. Maybe custom profile fields? btw. I checked only Name to show up.
I think you are… but it is totally OK to be concerned when our websites and communities rely on wp and bp working together. Everyone who’s involved in similar projects, like this one is, know that it can be quite tricky to dedicate all of his time to development and that there are ups and downs when it comes to enthusiasm. So no worries, I don’t think that bp is slowly dying.
Thanks guys, both of you have been a real help … I managed to figure it out
My solution was following…
In my template I used a function bp_activity_user_id() which echoed user ID , but instead of ID I needed username or displayname . So in bp-activity-templatetags.php I edited the line 380
return apply_filters( ‘bp_get_activity_user_id’, $activities_template->activity->user_id );
return apply_filters( ‘bp_get_activity_user_id’, $activities_template->activity->display_name );
You can see it in action here: http://www.fotografija.ba/slike/?afilter=album
Figured it out! If anyone needs the same just ask… I’ll be glad to help
OK … as someone mentioned, serious amount of coding here. The ideas you put into this update are great! Now, have been testing it and apart from running into already posted buds, I found another possible bug.
Maybe you’re already aware of this… here we go… On my test site, before using Version: 0.1.9 Build Date: 2010.05.15 , I was running bpalbum 0.1.7, now after upgrade, all pictures that were uploaded by previous version of bpalbum aren’t showing up. I think the 0.1.9. version did not assume there were already pictures uploaded and did not recognize it.
That’s it for now… continue with testing. keep up the good work guys!
