Just thought I’d mention that if you need to run some tests, I can create an account for you on my hostgator server (since I have a reseller account) – ie. you get full cpanel access etc. If you have a old domain name to use you can point it there. That way you could try a full new install and see if you get the same issue. I only propose this since I know it works on this host. You can delete the account when you get it working.
Either way, I hope you get it working!
You can close this. It shows for people who create a blog after I’ve installed BP, just not for users prior to installing BP.
err…following from my previous post, the whole ajax thing is definitely working. I get the notification email etc. The other person can accept the friendship request etc.
One thing and I can open a seperate thread so not as to derail this one until modemlooper has his problem resovled, but, when I click the link inside the email:
To accept the friend request, The browser spawns and redirects the URL to:
But that causes a 404. (just going to wp-login works but with the ?redirect part I get a 404).
Burtadsit and others: Good news is it’s working! – and I owe you a big apology if I’ve sent you spinning of in random directions.
I know you asked for 755 a hundered times. Given the 404 I triple checked this. As a long shot, I downloaded a different FTP client and set it to chmod 755 from mu-plugins all the way down, recursively and to files and subirectories. Even though I did with my previous FTP client, apparently it didn’t do a good job.
so, I download Filezilaa and it seemed to do something the other FTP client didn’t. Modemlooper – I explicitly previously granted that directory and that file 755 access but that didn’t work until I did this recursive chmod on all of it.
Burtadsit – thanks so much for your time and please accept my apologies since this was effectively user error (though I can blame it on the crappy FTP tool!)
I’m a happy camper now!
modemlooper, try what I did since we have the *exact* same problem.
Just a thought: I notice the other settings in bp-core-cssjs use the wp_enqueue function whereas the ajax one just echo’s a var definition. Not sure if that could be a cause or not?
http://jurnl.com/wp-content/mu-plugins/bp-core/bp-core-ajax-handler.php is a 404 on mine and modemlooper’s
I tried the same URL but for testbp.org:
And it certainly finds it. I can’t imagine why it doesnt like accessing the files in that directory under our servers. Incidentally, I can access the images directly under the bp-core/images directory. Just not the PHP file.
My URL is the same but replace twitterfic.com with my site, jurnl.com – so I think the URL construction is ok…its the full qualified path to where the file is. I verified it does exist but cannot understand how it reports a 404.
modemlooper – I guess its good that not only do we both have the same symptom, it looks like we both have the same underlying problem. Hopefully this will help Burt and Andy in their debugging efforts.
Cool site (pastie):
Thanks for the tip!
I put the response here (essentially a full html):
Many thanks all!! Sooooon I may have a ‘friends’ capability too
Andy, I can’t seem to post such a lengthy response in this forum…it wont save my post. I will try upload it somewhere for download (for the response), but here is some info:
The console shows a red error:
404 Not Found
Although I got excited, I verified the file is there.
The Request looks like this:
The Response I can’t post here so will upload it and let you know.
Will post soon.
I’m with hostgator if that is anything in common with the others. Though it is a reseller account and I’ve run things such as WP, WPMU, Drupal, Joomla etc so its probably unlikely its the host, but hey…
Is there any debug code I can add to a module that will help troubleshoot this?
I have triple checked this – yesterday after upgrading and it didnt work, I decided to actually delete all the old BP files and dropped the tables from the DB too. I just confirmed that all the BP files have an update date/time from when I uploaded them yesterday.
Regarding tabber…thats just a CSS file I had wanted to use. The problem occurred before I had used it, but to be safe I took it out again.
I have also now removed all other WPMU plug-ins I had installed. At this point its a WPMU install with BP and a download of 90 additional themes.
Burtadsit – I could give you cpanel and FTP access to that server if you’d like to scratch around – I feel almost bad for offering since you’re spending so much time on this.
Just not sure what could be causing this.
I was able to join that group! So that seems to work.
I also created another ‘test2′ group if you wanted to try join that one to verify it works.
Thanks much! Just FYI there is another thread here:
That is referencing the same problem, but also no solution yet.
Really appreciate the help
modemlooper – I have the same problem with the “add friend”. I have a similar thread going here:
Burtadsit is trying to help me over there. I’m sure it will be the same solution for both of us.
Edit: When I said I go to: http://jurnl.com/members/admin/friends/add-friend/3?_wpnonce=7e34976df0 and it “doesnt do anything”, I meant, it still doesnt add the friend. It does however, refresh and return to the profile page.
I’ve tried IE7 and Safari, both behave exactly the same way (spinning icon, not action).
I did have a earlier release of BP installed (never tried the friends then). To be sure, I deleted the old files, dropped the DB tables and copied the new files over.
It is a WPMU 2.7 install using subdomains. It is a linux box on a hosted environment. You can access the site here: jurnl.com
(You’re welcome to try it out – I appreciate the help).
Other info: when I hover over the friends button I see this is the URL its constructed:
Just trying to go directly to that URL doesnt do anything – not sure if thats valid but just trying to debug.
Thanks for pointing out that there is a error_log! I didn’t know about that. At any rate, unfortunately there is no error in there.
I click “add” and then it just spins. Nothing happens though. I did it just now again and verified no error gets spit to error_log – I also checked the friends db table and its empty.
Quite lost so appreciate any help,
