Great! Then your expectations are more than likely accurate. I wanted to err on the side of being too helpful (and maybe a little bit of a pain in the you know what) just in case you did not have the experience necessary to make such a estimate.

A quick observation. When looking to hire a designer or developer, you should not state your time expectations for the project (i.e. ”shouldn’t take more than a 3 days”). That often raises a red flag and turns away potential vendors. Unless you can only afford 3-days of work or have a lot of experience designing or coding, then you should not make assumptions about the complexity of the project. Either way, it is better to steer clear of imposing your time limits on a professional. Instead, when potential vendors contact you, interview them, asking them how much time they anticipate your proposal will require.

A quick search with the proper terms will bring up a number of options. This post in this thread should help. Once my BuddyPress Privacy Component is out in the wild, you will be able to easily do this with a simple radio button selection in the Site Admin menu of the component.

Very cool. I guess we can’t be ticked anymore.
function i_am_ticked() { global $bp, $whose_ticked; if( $whose_ticked == 'you' && $bp->backticks != false ) { echo "We're sorry, you can no longer be ticked"; } else { echo "Yep! You're ticked!"; } }This is an important improvement. Thanks, Ninjas!

Yeah, we know. @jeffsayre’s been working on a plugin to address this critical hole in BP. During the developer chat today Jeff guestimated that after 1.2.6 makes it out the door the BP Privacy will make it’s appearance about a week later. So in short, there’s no fast fix. Personally I’d recommend either warning people to [...]

BuddyCamp is still a kernel of an idea. It was something @mikepratt and I were working on about a year ago. Our initial idea was to hold the first one in Chicago as at the time it was convenient to the both of us. No other plans are in the works at this time.

Jeff Sayre posted on the forum topic Upgrade from 1.1.3 broke a lot in the group How-To and Troubleshooting:
Before performing such a major upgrade (both WordPress and BuddyPress), you should backup your database. Next, it is always best to be safe than sorry. Deactivate all plugins. This means BuddyPress too, as it is a WordPress plugin. Once WP is up and running, it is time to upgrade BuddyPress. You should read the additional [...]

@jeffsayre Hi Jeff,
I have a question for the member privacy on the homepage. Now the member buttom on the homepage is public, as it is a hidden members ship, I would like the member button in the lower navigation stays closed for not registered persons. Is that possible?
http://www.casesolver.nl using wp 3.01 BuddyPress Business, oh what a nice theme and the admin is very comfortable, thanks to all people that created this theme! -

Jeff Sayre posted on the forum topic Getting User's Full Name from user_id in the group How-To and Troubleshooting:
You’re making it more difficult than need be.
Just use the function bp_core_get_user_displayname() found in bp-core.php. You can give it a userid and it will spit out the user’s fullname. Just make sure that you echo the output as follows:
echo bp_core_get_user_displayname( $userid )

Jeff Sayre posted an update in the group BP.org Moderator Discussion:
@DJpaul, @r-a-y, @hnla, @boonebgorges, @jeffsayre: Our private discussions are bleeding through into each of our public activity streams. Sign out of BuddyPress and then visit each of our profiles and you’ll see this message.
Great! Boone will recall (sorry don’t have links to hand) that I originally stumbled across a showstopper bug with hidden groups and raised a ticket on the issue of two people, both friends, one a member of a hidden group the other not. The non member however was able to visit their profile > friends screen and see activity for their friend including the friends hidden group activity, worse they were able to add a reply as I am here that would appear in the hidden group even though they were not a member of this hidden group – effectively meaning ’Hidden’ groups were simply erroneous.
Boone worked through a fix with me testing as noted on the ticket, this seemed effective but I’m assuming that as bp.org is running on trunk? it hasn’t picked up the fix included in 1.2.8 branch further highlighting the need to merge as soon as possible? (perhaps I have this all wrong?)
However! recently a thread was started by a member complaining that hidden groups were bleeding through to activity streams on 1.2.5.2 I asked for steps to reproduce as I couldn’t seem to replicate this but I got little response other than the steps were obvious
hmm!
I now wonder whether this fix was committed after all and will have to check through my installs in detail.Edit/ Of course appreciate that the @mention bleed through is not necessarily connected to the issue I refer to , but altogether point to a rather serious issue with hidden groups and further, the promotion of hidden groups – until such time as the nature of ’Hidden’ is just that with all the seals double checked and no further leakiness – should be curtailed or at least a general public notice that hidden groups are to be used with caution until further notice, or am I too alarmist
