I’ll be working on this in a few weeks for my upcoming community site, which needs separate account types – essentially for those users creating content, and those users looking for content.

They’ll need to have completely different permissions and profiles – for example, the creative/content producing members are showcasing their work, while the other user types are searching for them and offering them work etc.

I’ll post back with my developments when I start working on it :)

+1 for the idea of being able to message people who are following you (but not necessarily people YOU are following, if they haven’t followed back)

It could be implemented as a setting, which either the site admin can decide for all users, or users can decide for themselves:

    1. Any people on the site can message me.
    2. Only people who I am following, who are also following me, can message me.
    3. Only people who I am following can message me.
    4. Nobody can message me.

    Thoughts?

Update: I can see how to remove the aspect ratio in the Jcrop script, that’s cool – but when you remove the aspect ratio, you get some funky results on the avatar preview panel, with it stretching the image.

This makes sense because of the way the preview is handled, with it stretching the image in the pane to reflect the cropped area – so I guess the thing to do is remove the preview pane altogether and let the user work it out based on the crop boundaries they’re creating.
