It appears GPU (Grid Processing Unit) is something that only mediatemple uses and even after reading everything about it, I am not sure how much traffic can it withstand. I also discovered they charge $20 per backup snapshot which I believe is a lot.
I will keep looking for another day or two and I will fill out the quote at webhosting talk and will go from there.
Ok, I have created extended profiles for users under the wp admin: Users > Profile fields
There is one thing that I can not do with the options provied in buddypress.
I want to create a section under the profiles similar to the “Family” section in facebook:
1. Relationship Status: should open up the options where people can select one from drop down and then other fields pop up where people can enter the name of the person they are in relationship with.
2. Family section: where people can add a name of a family member, select the relationship and then keep adding more family members by repeating this process.
Hopefully the devs can comment on this thread because almost 70 % of the new members never activate their account from the email they get…so definitely vast majority of these 70% are spammers.
Q: How can I display a message like this “You will get a link in email to activate your account after registration” on the account creation page?
I understand your plugin is going to be the biggest and most extensive media plugin ever built for BP. Just wondering if you have a release date for the BP-Media plugin?
Currently I have observed another developer releasing quick updates of their plugin called BuffyPress-Media as follows:
When I selected the option “User accounts may be registered”, the ‘select your new site checkbox’ immediately disappeared from the new member account creation page. No css changed were required.
Our site is still BP/Multisite and we can allow the blogs any time later if we want. I want to keep the ability to turn the blogs on so I plan to keep the entire BP/Multisite setup.
Q: Can I manually add blog sites for the members who request a blog site on a later time (let’s say two month after creating their account)? Basically wondering if I can do it on a case by case basis from the WP-Admin for the existing members whenever they want a blog site?

insertyourdomainhere.com/members shows members list but some from today are not in the list…perhaps they still need to activate their accounts from the registration email link. But I do see them in the WP-admin.
insertyourdomainhere.com/sites doesn’t show the site list as of yet with today’s new sites, even though I can see the sites for today’s registered members in the WP-admin area. May be insertyourdomainhere.com/sites will show the list for all the members who registered today after they activate their registration?
I did that but for some reason people are able to select other themes such as twenty ten and twenty eleven.
I can understand how.
Note: The funny thing is that those sites and the mebers that created those sites are only visible in the WP-Admin but not on the main site. I am wondering if there is a security hole somewhere because any new mebers and his/her site should show on the main site also, not just in the WP-admin area.
I have network enabled the main theme that we use on socialwikileaks-dot-com (it is X2 theme from themekraft) for members to use for their sites.
Since there are 3 other themes (BuddyPress default, BuddyPress Twenty Ten, and BuddyPress Twenty Eleven) also available in the “theme” section, so some newly registered members have selected one of those 3 themes.
I manage to delete two of the themes (Twenty Ten and Twenty Eleven) but I can not delete the “BuddyPress Default” theme.
Since I want members to “only use the main site theme X2″, I am wondering if there is a way to:
1. Delete the BuddyPress default theme?
2. Not allow anyone to use any other theme except the main site theme X2 to maintain consistency thru out the network?
