if the theme was designed for budddypress then i would ask the theme developer for help if it wasn’t then something is wrong because that link should be showing up already.
that shouldn’t be possible something definitely seems up with your installation at least to me.
sound like a great feature suggestion for 2.0 if you ask me.
i really like this one:
if you feel that the fix you found would be something that universally beneficial i would urge you to share it either on trac or here @jf_trumpet
wouldn’t preloading 1300 of anything slow down a page load time though?
probably the right way to do that is turn registration off in the general wordpress settings.
you set that in wordpress reading settings to whatever you want.
in the buddypress settings, not sure how to be any more explicit.
have you set the registration page in the buddypress page settings?
i think all this hullabaloo about who’s working where is a bit of a distraction how come nobody mentions that @djpaul is now working for automattic?
@synaptic the development cycle for buddypress has been greatly accelerated in the recent revisions. the whole idea behind that is to foster more features and better functionality at a faster pace. nobody is trying to claim that buddypress is perfect. to the contrary we are saying that if you want to help, please do.
@sooskriszta one of the primary goals of the last few releases has been to make them more frequent and to stick to the schedule come hell or high-water. the idea is that more frequent updates will facilitate more innovation and features. the template pack as i understand it, was too big a task to make the deadline for 1.9 given the manpower at hand. i think any contribution of labor would help make sure it makes the cut for version 2.
idk whnever i have accidentally marked someone as a spammer i just un-mark using wangguard they will then show up as forced green status maybe that doesn’t unmark them in buddypress’s eyes. perhaps @jconti knows more.
yeah that article was obviously written by someone who does not actually participate (or lurk for that matter) in the weekly meetings.
Fact is jjj actually put a ton of work into this release of budypress. The part he was working on i don’t even understand because, like yourself i am not a developer. but i do understand it enough to know its the kind of thing very few people may appreciate but makes those few (devs) lives much easier. i also know it took a lot of his hours to make it happen. 10up just today or yesterday announced that they devoting 100% of @helen ‘s time to wordpress so i don’t think it’s accurate to suggest that jjj won’t still be able to spend a good chunk of his time on buddypress.
like any open source project it’s success or failure is defined by the people who volunteer their time and efforts to build and promote it, so if you feel like you’d like to do that, a good place to start might be the regular weekly irc meetings or simply start following the BPdev blog which can be found here:
i would say there should probably be an easier way to find that site on buddypres.org though.
yeah it was a recent decision to disable most of the components by default. the logic goes a little something like this; turning on all the components by default which the way it used to be was great for discovering features but has the downside of over complicating the user experience for new communities. It is always better to ad new features then to take them away. So by default only two features turned on are Profiles and Activity Streams. I tried to make the argument that Site Tracking was essentially the same thing as Activity Streams and only applies to Multisite (in which case i would argue it is almost always the most essential feature) but that was not consensus so the feature is not turned on by default.
i wouldn’t say it was obvious, anyway have you also activated the site tracking component inside the buddypress network settings?
yes, if you don’t see that option and your never went through it before then what’s happened, i believe is that you did not edit the config file correctly.
did you run the network setup in tools after you modified the config file?
did you try un-marking with wangguard using another admin?
