I'm not a developer, not a coder, neither a designer. But programming languages are basically in English, so it shouldn't be difficult to understand the functions. I've tried many OSS tools, Xoops, Drupal, Mahalo, Elgg, MT, etc... but I'm in love with WordPress. Now developing blog powerd social networking sites in Japanese and English, which is coming later. Tools I use: - Notepad++ - GIMP - Filezilla and you are done!

    Still bbpress is installed as ”latin1_swedish_ci” by the buddypress one click installation, although others are mostly installed as ”utf8_general_ci” Not sure if this should go to buddypress trac or bbpress trac.

    If running on VPS, you should at least need 512mb of RAM in order to run wordpress/buddypress smoothly. But that’s just from my experince running wpmu/buddypress on a VPS.

    If you are running buddypress with wordpress single version (not wpmu), then dreamhost, hostgator, and others should be fine.
    But if you intend to host blogs or use buddypress with wpmu, then those shared servers won’t be capable of your applications. I currently use wpmu/buddypress on Media Temple grid server.

    Version 1.1.8 has a bug with WordPress 2.9.2 with BuddyPress 1.2.1
    Enabling this plugin disables buddypress profiles, which returns 404 on every member profile page.
