Doas anyone know a good guide/tutorial for installing WPMU/Buddypress on OSX with XAMPP? I know i have to change localhost to localhost.localdomain. But where and how can i achieve this? And why isn’t it possible to run WPMU on localhost? No spamming, just for general interest.

    Hey Erich,

i know a developer who is able to achieve this. They wrote me a private message on the german buddypress forum as a reply to my post:

    http://forum.wordpress-deutschland.org/buddypress/48801-buddypress-international-benutzerdatenbank-teilen.html

Maybe we could work somehow together to get something suitable for both of us. If you are interested in the developer write me a PM and i sent you the details (you can write in german if you want).

Is it possible to share the LogIn/SignOn between 2 installations of WPMU/Buddypress?

In my case it wouldn’t be a problem if the websites (language1/language2) run each on a seperate installation of WPMU/Buddypress, because i want a strict seperation of the content regarding to its language (webiste1 = language1 = only content written in language1 / website2 = language 2 = only content written in language2).

The only concern that holds me back from this type of multi language setup is the that i want my user to be able to switch between the language1-website and language2-website with only one Login. So if the user is logged in on language1.website.com he should be able to switch to language2.website.com without any additional login (similar to the WPMU/MediaWiKi plugin > https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2912).

I figured out that there is TEMPLATEPATH available. However when i use TEMPLATEPATH it refers to the absolute path rather than to the relative path on my Server?! Is there anybody who could help me with this?

    echo '<a href="' . $bp->root_domain . '"><img id="admin-bar-logo" src="' . apply_filters( 'bp_admin_bar_logo_src', TEMPLATEPATH . '/images/admin_bar_logo.gif' ) . '" alt="' . apply_filters( 'bp_admin_bar_logo_alt_text', __( 'BuddyPress', 'buddypress' ) ) . '" /></a>';

I have a question about the loader.php in the css directory.

I followed all steps of the instruction:

    https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-buddypress/upgrading-from-rc-1/

However my directories were messed up. The styles weren’t applied. I figured out that it has something to do with the loader.php in the css directory.

My question is if it is possible to just copy the RC2 /css/loader.php in my customn theme /css/ folder? I’m afraid, cuz the new loader.php is much smaller with significant less file imports (where are the imports for e.g. grups.css / blogs.css /friends.css / wire.css)?

Is there a Shortcut available to reference to the Template/Theme directory?

I tried something like this, but unfortunately there is no BP_TEMPLATE_URL available:

    ‘echo ‘root_domain . ‘”><img id=”admin-bar-logo” src=”‘ . apply_filters( ‘bp_admin_bar_logo_src’, BP_TEMPLATE_URL . ‘/images/admin_bar_logo.gif’ ) . ‘” alt=”‘ . apply_filters( ‘bp_admin_bar_logo_alt_text’, __( ‘BuddyPress’, ‘buddypress’ ) ) . ‘” />‘;

    ?>’

Does anyone knows the correct Tag for this? I also want to move the admin_bar_logo.gif into my theme directory.

    Hey Aron,

the features of the “Top Ten posts plugin” include pretty much all what i need. I think the only problem is that it is not WPMU ready and i don’t know how to fix this.

i thought a solution could be to use Donnchas plugin, but unfortunately i wasn’t even able to make it working only in the tags blog.

So I’m glad about every hint you have for me …

    Hey, thanks for the reply,

but aren’t these only the most recent posts? Such a widget comes allready bundled with buddypress.

What i’m looking for is a plugin/widget that shows the most POPULAR posts of a day, not the most recent posts!

Same for me. I get somethin like this:

Warning: in_array() [function.in-array]: Wrong datatype for second argument in /xxx/xxx/public_html/xxx/wp-admin/includes/plugin.php on line 233

@ Andy: Nice new feature! Will such function also be available for the recent blog posts widget, say at least to switch between the newest entries and the mots popular ones?

We need more filter to organize the content, members and groups! WordPress.com shows how to do it!

Anyway, thanks so much for this great WPMU Plugins!

I would like to see something like the “tag surfing” feature on http://en.wordpress.com/tags/

If u run a large community it is essential to “categorize” ur posts in some way to make them accessable. I think the tag surfing idea is a pretty simple and good solution!

A tag cloud on the frontpage and a feature like “Browse by recent Tags” would be great!

We would also like to use BP for an educational ed purpose. For the moment we are trying to make some money available to hire an developer to come up with a Wiki solution, where registered members could write articles and share their knowledge within the community. But as always in such projects it is hard to get some money :(

I’ll hope someone sees the big potential in a Wiki Plugin and come up with an open source version.

Please share ur ideas, i’m very interested in what you are doing in ur ed projects.

I gave some thoughts to this topic and my conclusion so far is, that it would be the best solution to set up a WPMU + Buddypress System for each language. The only thing that would be needed is a Plugin that shares the Userdata between these systems. A user who signed up on your swedish installation of WPMU + Buddypress should be able to use this account for your english version too and so on.

One could do it as on wordpress.com, where wordpress.com is the main website. If You choose a different language, say german (.de) you get redirected to de.wordpress.com and only german content will appear.

I think this is an essential request! Instead of adding tons of new features the focus should be on the basic features again; to build a tool that connects people and allows communitation! Everyone who wants to use Buddypress for an international purpose needs multi-language support for the frontend. It would be great to have language filters for the contents like on wordpress.com or facebook.com. If the user prefers swedish instead of english for instance he should only get blog posts/groups and forums in his choosen language. This is definitely one point that should be considered in future development.

    Whats your thoughts about this?

What i’m concerned about is that every user can create his own blog. I’ll miss the possibility to limit the users storage or traffic. Would be great if the BuddyPress Hoster could offer a basic free membership (wich is limited somehow) and if anyone special needs more the hoster could charge him for that. I’m thinking of the concept of http://en.wordpress.com/products/

Is there anything like this in the pipeline?
