I could do that (myself and abfinteractive are working together), but I’ve run into one problem.

I want to add the widgetized area to my child theme (and therefore put it in my child themes functions.php so it won’t get overwritten during a BP upgrade) but I’m not sure how to do this. When I’ve done it before it renders the original bp-default right sidebar (which we use) dead and only one works.

Is there a way around this, should I remove the sidebar from the bp-default’s functions.php and move that to the child themes with the new one?

Hey Ted, (was at your WCNYC Session about Hyper-Local)

Anyways, We’re just using a hard-coded version of it to show on our homepage right now, although I’d also be interested to know if anyone has added this as a widget.

no, not currently although we will probably edit it ourselves to do so.

I’ll keep an Eye on PODS, I saw some stuff on it while I was at Wordcamp NYC in November and it looks nice.

We’re actually running this one http://www.myreviewplugin.com/

It seemed to fit with our needs the best, and has actually been quite easy to work with. We’re also using GravityForms (which is probably one of the best plugins to ever be on WordPress) to handle adding new beers (which are actually posts)

    Thanks wpin.me

We just got the Reviews “working”. Still ironing out some minor bugs but we’re quite happy with how its turned out so far.

I’m at the same problem. Followed the instructions in the functions.php and put that line in my child themes functions.php and nothing changed at all.

Anyone find a way around this without editing the bp-defaults functions.php ?

    https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/

Right in the WordPress Themes folder like Modemlooper said. That is a good read to understand child themes

    Thanks @etiviti

Not sure if I should go that route or just use peoples first and last names. I just don’t want to scare off users if it displays their real names.
