    @jodyw1

Thanks Michael. I was going nuts trying to figure the problem out. I bookmarked the admin page for the root blog, so I’ll go at it from there. Maybe someone will notice this post and write a script for “Show Super User Status on My Blogs”.

    :-)

    Excellent, Symm!

Any problems? Do you recommend the free version or the paid version?

I’ll do the 2.8.2 update and see if that fixes it.

Leaving for Comic-Con in the morning, so things might have to wait for a few days.

    :-D

Thanks. I renamed BP, Welcome Pack and the album plugin and now I have admin access again.

Seems as though 2.8.1 really hasn’t installed. I’m getting a message at the top of the admin page that 2.8.1 is available and another at the bottom saying I’m running 2.8.1.

    lol

I should add that even the wp-admin page is returning that same error.

Actually, can’t even deactivate BP at this point. Clicking deactivate returns that same fatal error.

And none of the mu blogs are working either. Using any of those urls returns the same error, the bp-core-templatetags.php.

What’s actually interesting is I believe there was an image posted a few weeks back showing that something like this blog idea was part of the first mock-ups for BP.

I spent some time creating a theme for blogs that would look like the rest of my site, to at least give the appearance of a closely integrated blog if not the actual function of one.

    Thanks J^3.

By doing this, I also learned how the optionsbar and the userbar play together.

Thanks, Andy. I’ve noticed that. My next trick will be figuring out how to optimize everything.

I’m kidding. My next trick will be paying someone to figure out how to optimize everything.

Wait, isn’t bp_adminbar the bar at the top? Wouldn’t I be disabling the login on the top bar instead of bp_userbar?

    Found them!

Hmm. Note to self… widgetize them..

Gaetan, thanks for that. I’m planning on integrating that, too.

What I was looking for was a work around for locally hosted images for users, ala Facebook or MySpace.

I’m thinking NextGen the gallery might work for what I want, as it’s probably going to be a while before the development team will get to adding the gallery into the BP code.

Funny, I was going to ask a similar question.

One of the areas for future expansion is to give BP a gallery. I’m converting my site over to BP and we have galleries.

I’m looking for a recommendation for a good gallery plugin to use until BP’s comes on-line.

I was wondering if this is what you guys were looking for:

    http://wpmudev.org/project/Menus

The plugin gives you control of what menus are turned on site-wide for each member. Well, it’s kind of a “global” thing right now, but it seems to take care of disabling back-end menus.

Here’s the description of the plugin:

“….If, like me, you need to hide the Themes or Import Menu, or don’t want anyone messing with their Permalinks menu, or are frightened by the Delete Blog menu, this plugin will help.

Toggles the following in WPMU 2.7

    ‘Site Administrator Gets Limited Menus?’,

    ‘Posts’,

    ‘Posts Add New’,

    ‘Posts Edit’,

    ‘Posts Tags’,

    ‘Posts Categories’,

    ‘Links’,

    ‘Links Add New’,

    ‘Links Edit’,

    ‘Links Link Categories’,

    ‘Pages’,

    ‘Pages Add New’,

    ‘Pages Edit’,

    ‘Media’,

    ‘Media Add New’,

    ‘Media Library’,

    ‘Comments’,

    ‘Appearance’,

    ‘Appearance Themes’,

    ‘Users’,

    ‘Users Authors and Users’,

    ‘Users Add New’,

    ‘Users Your Profile’,

    ‘Tools’,

    ‘Tools Import’,

    ‘Tools Export’,

    ‘Tools Turbo’,

    ‘Settings’,

    ‘Settings General’,

    ‘Settings Writing’,

    ‘Settings Reading’,

    ‘Settings Discussion’,

    ‘Settings Privacy’,

    ‘Settings Permalinks’,

    ‘Settings Media’,

    ‘Settings Miscellaneous’,

    ‘Settings Delete Blog’,

    ‘WPMU Media Buttons’,

    ‘WP Media Buttons’,

    ‘Dashboard’

If you use other plugins to add/disable/hide admin menus, there will be collisions/errors. Happy testing!

Plugins adding menu pages to WPMU 2.7 Adminbar may not be hidden in all browsers.

Favorites menu items toggle as well….”

I wonder how far Andy got with that version, if the files still exist, and it\’s an easy resurrect?

Well, it\’s probably not THAT easy to do…. but it is fun to suggest more work to people.

    :-D

That’s the first time I’ve seen that jpg of an early version of a blog theme. It’s really elegant and beautiful. I’m thinking one of the future features for the site should be to configure blogs that way in addition to the stand alone themes people are working on now.

The bbPress template is PAINFUL to modify. Doesn’t work the same was as WordPresss.

I’ve found though that the blank theme available from

    http://www.refueled.net/blank-themes/

make creating a matching theme so much easier.

    Check them out.

Thanks for posting that. Since I’m not much of a coder, when I make suggestions on the trac report I tend to think I’m just being annoying. Nice to know that much of the time it’s actually helpful.

bbPress is an absolute pain to work with. Its themeing process is unlike the rest of the Automatic family, very idiosyncratic and frustrating if you try to tackle it from scratch.

    But…

I discovered that Refueled.Net makes a \\\”blank\\\” bbPress theme that is a snap to customize. Head over to: http://www.refueled.net/free-bbpress-themes/ and install one of those, then go in and make your custom mods there.

    Easypeazy.

    >That must be a feature I hadn’t noticed. :)

Glargh! You scared me there. You are one of the Super Smart Ones. I thought I’d finally lost my grasp on reality, seeing things that weren’t there….

    :-D

Okay, I took a look at the settings. Privacy is set to public, so that’s not it. It’s really weird because that one thing seems to be the only thing the activity stream isn’t picking up.

    lol

“Michael Raburn created a new blog: Testies 3 hours, 44 minutes ago.”

That’s from the testbp site’s site wide activity list. I may have phrased it wrong, but that’s what won’t display on my site wide activity list.

Yea! It’s not on our end!

Thanks John. I got it part of the way there, but it took my redheaded wonder of a PHP God to figure the rest of it out. He had to build a password hash table to get it all working right.

I should add though that we just now found a new problem. Creating a new blog doesn’t show up on the feed, but posting an entry or making a comment on any blog does. It wasn’t doing that before.

    *sigh*

At least the forums are working.

I’m running 1.02b… I was waiting for the official full release before upgrading…

Okay, I missed putting plugin-sidebar.php in the theme folder. I’ve added that in. The extra content div was from the theme integration with BP. I’ve pulled that out.

Nothing changed though. It’s still failing to call the sidebar functions. I too don’t even see them listed with firebug. It’s ending right after the directory script.

You have no idea how deep the groove in my forehead is from the number of times I’ve slapped it h gone “d’oh!”

I haven’t coded in 20 years. I’m amazed at the work Andy and Co did getting this thing to work. Tracking all of the function calls, figuring out what talks to what, etc has been very enlightening. I still haven’t figured it all out yet, so I’m sure there are more questions coming.

And I’m sure that groove in my forehead will deepen.
