    @jtbailey

    No news. I think we should take up a collection and hire somebody. I know a reliable PHP guy from Rentacoder.com who’s done a few projects for me. I’ll send him a bid request and see what this would cost, and if he’s interested.

    Then I guess I’ll set up a paypal fund and see if we can raise the money (because I’m strapped).

    Think it will work?

    no, though I may try rent-a-coder eventually

    CONTINUED…

    …and everything seems to work:

    A /home/jbailey/www/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-friends.php

    etc… etc… etc…

    …Checked out revision 1324.

    But when I check the plugins folder, Buddypress isn’t there. (I’m using Coda, by the way)

    First time using subversion, so I don’t really know what I’m doing.

    I don’t know why this keeps cutting my post in half, I’ll give it one more try:

    I’m also having trouble with the svn, I do this:

    svn co https://svn.buddypress.org/trunk/ /home/jbailey/www/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/

    Whoops, it cut me off… I meant to say:

    I’m also having trouble with the svn, I do this:

    `svn co https://svn.buddypress.org/trunk/ /home/jbailey/www/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/

    Oh no, @Enrico, classifieds are THE core function of every local newspaper, which is essentially what Buddypress is, when you think about it.

    But if you want to do a photo gallery, take a look at this guy’s Drupal module: http://drupal.org/project/picasa

    I was impressed at how seamless it was. Personally I’m nervous about being responsible for people’s personal photos, especially when Flickr and Picasa do such a nice job of it for free. That module made me realize It’s better to have a good “glue” module than an excellent standalone “gallery”.

    @Zenseeker, I tried wp-classifieds and Classipress and both left much to be desired. No worries, I have a nice jQuery/ajaxy theme I may be able to ransom off to get what I need.

    @Gpo1

    Sorry, it’s just a mock-up so far, I’m trying to entice one of these geniuses into actually coding it, or something like it

    Having it post to Twitter is a good idea though

    I wonder how tough it would be to use the same “Add Media” buttons that WordPress uses for it’s Quickpress thing. That seems like the ideal solution to me.

    And a “post to wire” bookmarklet, same as the WordPress “Press This” but with a Friends selector. Hmmm

    I’d like to see:

    1. better taxonomy with separate vocabularies (think Drupal). For example if there’s a profile field called “home town” and the user enters New York, NY, that would link to a list of other people who’s hometown is New York, NY (instead of doing a sitewide search for everything containing “New York”)

    2. some type of user role system with different permissions for each role, and different profile fields per role (business, typical user, whatever)

    3. ability to comment on Activity posts (like Facebook, though I assume this is already in the pipeline)

    4. total integration with Picassa and Flickr ( check out what this guy’s been doing with the 6.x version of this: http://drupal.org/project/picasa . It’s the best sort of photo management for a CMS I’ve come across )

    excellent, I’ll send you an Ajaxified theme if I can get it working
