  • HI Paul, yes the sidebars will not show, no matter what I try.
The theme has the option to select which sidebars show for each post, page, category & archive, none of which will show within the BP pages. In the normal WP pages & posts etc they are all fine.
Also the alignment & spacing all seems way off, of course this is an easy fix in CSS.
I also tried the BuddyPress Template Pack, which of course failed to correct without going through the step 3, but as the files are different to previous versions it was not so easy to correct.
Not sure if it makes a difference, but this is a responsive theme, see http://themes.goodlayers.com/?theme=modernize for theme preview, although I had already changed the look with a child theme.

I need the site to be responsive, so unless I can fix the above or get a date for 1.7 I will have to get a responsive BP base theme to build a child theme for.

Not sure if this is something I should list in the bug report or not, is it a compatibility issue? theme specific issue? Or something else?

Buddypress as far as I have found can run in MAMP, and here’s how I have been able to do it (may not work for everyone).
*In the MAMP directory (using finder) right click the htdocs folder > Get Info > now what I done was to set all users – myself, _www & everyone to full read & Write, I also ticked the ‘Shared folder’ and then set it to ‘Apply to enclosed items’ by way of the settings (cog wheel at bottom) to do that you will need to unlock and enter your system admin password – you may have to be logged in on the system as admin to do this.
This will allow WP/BP to be able to write to your .htaccess file.
You should then be able to set your permalink to anything but the default to allow BP to work.

However… Those of us who use Dreamweaver have found issues – Dreamweaver (CS 5.5 anyway) cannot handle WP sites using anything but the default permalink structure.
So if you want to run a WP/BP site on MAMP and edit with Dreamweaver you are kinda snookered either way.

    Unless someone has any ideas??

*not everyone will want to or should set directories to full access like this and may cause a security issue on your system, I take no responsibility for problems incurred by anyone doing this – it’s just what works for me, but I am on a safe network.

Hahahahaha, so much for the referral to that board then hnla, lol
    Just my luck!

****Edit – found the new home for this, search pointed me to this thread and thought group was gone.***

    Artisteer – see http://www.artisteer.com/
It’s a theme generator, if you like. I generally use it to quickly create a theme, then tidy things up in the CSS.

Re the Jobs board, I didn’t know one existed – will head over there later today if I don’t sort something first.
    Thanks

I have no problem in hiring someone to help out with this issue….
As for the CSS / HTML awareness…. neither of these help when the problem is within PHP…. I can clearly see in the PHP where the CSS is pulled in, but it still does not fix the problem.
If I had more time to spare a few days trawling this or other sites, I might as well go do a course in PHP, might be quicker too.
Right now I have too much on to spend time doing either trawling or a course, I need a quick fix, whether that’s hiring someone to show me on just one of the files, or all of them, I don’t care I just want it fixed… is this wrong??

Re: Step 3 – customizing theme for BP.
There has been dozens, if not hundreds of posts regarding this issue, is there anyone here that can edit my files, or provide a full tutorial on how to do this.
I have created my theme using Artisteer, and no matter how many times I have tried to correct the alignment it just will not work!!
I have a good understanding of CSS, and HTML but when it comes to PHP I am pretty much beat.
The files are all local, I am working on this locally on the Mac, using MAMP so I don’t have a URL to give, but can give a location where I have a zip file of the required files.
Hopefully someone with a bit of know-how will create either a plugin to correct this, or a fully explained tutorial that covers this properly.

Dang it, I can’t get the code to paste properly!

I have been trying to make Artisteer files usable for BP, with no luck…
Having tried several times I cannot seem to get the code right on all the files, below is the theme’s page.php code, can some kind person here please highlight or indicate to me (I am not good at PHP, CSS, or HTML yes, but not PHP) what I have to carry across to the BP files.
