My present theme is incompatible. Switching to twenty eleven theme on my locally hosted site worked. Was having this same problem on locally hosted testing website too.

Hi, I have the latest version of wordpress and all other plugins. Buddypress was working fine with all these other plugins and theme before till Sunday! It has happened only in the last 5 days or so. I deactivated all plugins except buddypress and still its not working. It was working with BP 1.7 so I will try and revert back.

    Hi bp-help,

Thanks so much for replying! My default setting was contributor (roles – add/edit posts, participate in forums, and BP activity). Because of spams I changed it to Subscriber (Only BP activity, no adding posts). The profile fields I am talking about are in the base/primary field only. Even the base fields are not showing up – even name and email! Nothing, just blank. I had to add my own sign-up form using a shortcode to that page to at least show the name and email fields, and that is not working either.

    Many Thanks
    Sonia

@hkcharlie: Hi! You may check your server CPU usage from your cPanel under the statistics section on the bottom left side of the page. there’s a small link under CPU usage that also shows the graph for the last 24 hours.

Hi Thanks to All! @Metric and @Presence Films, thanks for your inputs and I will try using the mentioned plugin. @FIQ I have asked the member to try to login from some other browser than the one she normally uses (to avoid reloading cached pages) and I am waiting for her response.

@Metric: Thanks so much for replying! I feel and I hope you would agree that more plugins = more conflicts and troubles. I am at this moment trying to use the least amount of plugins as possible and only the popular and well rated ones. I hope to resolve this without using another plugin and hopefully that Buddypress plugin itself comes up with a solution. Ideally it should because a successful and trouble free registration of a genuine user is the starting point and all the activity starts later! Just like a car gets a trouble free start and then a great ride!

Resolved – here are the steps to resolve it:
    1. Uninstall bbpress plugin,
    2. Go to Buddypress->Settings->Pages and set the Group forums page to Forums (with “forums” slug)
    3. Go to Buddypress->Settings->Forums and press the button “Install Site wide forums”. This would install bbpress plugin.
    4. Once Installed and activated, you will be redirected to installed plugins page so again go back to Buddypress->Settings->Pages and set Group Forums page to a new page “Group-Forums”.
That should do it. at least this worked for me…:)

@mercime Thanks so much for replying. I am using a theme Supermassive by themeforest and this theme is BP compatible. Was working fine with BP1.5.7. Plugins Installed (all at their latest versions)

    bbpress,
    jw player,
    members (for tweaking user roles),
    akismet,
    BP Group Email Subscription,
    Subscribe2,
Buddypress Group forum extras(deactivating this didn’t work),
    enhanced Buddypress widgets,
    WP Super Cache
    YARRP

Site Wide Forum settings – I have checked “Allow BuddyPress Groups to have their own forums”
and Group Forums Parent as “Forum Root”. The pages assigned under Buddypress – Settings have not changed, nor I made any changes to the Site Wide Forum Settings after upgrading to version 1.6. There are only 2 options for me at Buddypress->Settings-> Forums
    1. Uninstall Group Forums
    2. Configure Site Wide Forums

Thanks and would really appreciate all advise.

Hi All! I was having the same Fatal Error message and wasn’t able to access admin. But then just a few mins ago I upgraded buddypress successfully to 1.6!! Yippee!

What I did: Took a backup, DEACTIVATED all active plugins, then I Activated buddypress plugin only, Upgraded it, Voila I saw the update wizard, went through the steps, Reactivated all Recently Active Plugins, and Buddypress 1.6 is working nicely – Piece of Cake!!

I also faced the same problem (Fatal error – could not locate a function / invalid function call (bp – member something) inside the plugin directories – sorry I didn’t copy the error message) and couldn’t access admin, and moreover if I went to view member’s activity, I was just getting the message – No activity found. I haven’t installed the plugin S2member on my site, so that couldn’t be the reason for this error, though I have the Members plugin to tweak user roles. I have rolled back to version 1.5.7 and seems to work fine now and thankfully the site activity was fine as before. Hope this gets resolved and I would be glad to use ver 1.6.

I am having the same problem and I tried to do a test registration today. I have checked the spam folder to see if I get any activation key, but no we don’t, just the account activation mail. I activated my account using the link in the email.I was redirected to the activation key page too. Copy pasting the key from the activation link does not work. I tried to play a trick, I logged in using the username and pwd I used during the registration and it worked. I could open my profile page and upload avatar and add friends without entering the activation key. I don’t know why this is happening, and this can be a turn off for people trying to register on the site and something should be done about this. Thanks in advance for any helpful tips!
