What do you mean by “add music?” do you mean to have music automatically begin playing when someone visits the site because, if so, DON’T.

Unless someone else has a WP-MultiSite with BP and an equivalent number of plugins, I have to assume that it is a server situation. It is, in fact a shared server, so that would account for the constant crashing.
The actual error message is “Service Temporarily Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

Additionally, a 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    Apache/2.2.16 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.16 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 mod_jk/1.2.30 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 mod_bwlimited/1.4 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 Server at http://www.lockedndenied.com Port 80″

I am using “Citizen Kane” I REALLY like the theme. Using it on http://www.xbox-arena.com, too.

Well, I’ve started trimming down some of the plugins … hopefully this will stop the 503’s.

    The Results are in!
BOWOB does not function. Breaks the theme. Awaiting response from developer.
BP-Chat does not function. Been in beta 2 for ages. Does not recognize when members are logged in and the time for users to display in chat is so long most peeps gave up.
Looks like I will get cometchat.

Doesn’t do a thing. Create a menu item “Example Admin” with two fields “Option One” and “Option Two” and a “Save Settings” button … that’s it. An instruction link goes to a dead page.

@r-a-y Thanks for the suggestion. But did not work; and probably because the regular BP Activity Stream is not the home page for this theme.

I have a completely different problem … CAPTCHA on comments appears fine. It is not appearing on the registration page: http://www.xbox-arena.com/register

@hnla I know that there will be a segment of the population who will be prevented from joining because I am blocking IP addresses. But, I want/need these prevented in the first place and I do not understand why this is not addressed in the core and has to be something I must “hunt through the forum threads to reducing spam signups”. Its not like this is an unknown issue.

Besides, I HAVE searched for “reduce spambots” “reduce fake sign ups” “Reduce and reducing spam sign ups” with zero results.

What I have to ask is “Why?” and “How?” are these spambots accessing and creating users? I have one site that uses WP multisite with BP and there’s a great plugin “BP Registration Options” that works well enough to grab and display all new member requests and displays IP addresses; which I then add to WP-Ban. Its taken a month but I am now down to a dozen or so spambot signups per day.

Now, I have another WP/BP site that is NOT multisite and “BP Registration Options” does not work the same. BUT I copy the IP addresses from the one and paste it into the “WP Ban” of this site. However, I am still 100+ spambot signups per day. So, I have a plugin “Pending Activations” (which doesn’t work in multisite) but this plugin does not display the IP address of the offending spambot signups. Thus, my battle with the signups continues …

So … How are the spambots signing up? Why does the registration form not have CAPTCHA? and how can we stop them from signing up?

It would be great to have a counter, too.

Likewise, if I want to have a widget appear on EVERY page/post EXCEPT “Home” I would normally use !is_home() but because widget logic is having some trouble distinguishing the home page of Citizen Kane I can’t use this option.

Sincee I have a PAGE called “Home” assigned as “Widget Home Page” with ID number … hmmm … I’ll just use is_page(#) DOH! … … … Moments later … that didn’t work either.

In case anyone is still seeking answers to this challenge I have WP 3.0.4 MultiSite and BP 1.2.7 and @roberte ‘s solution works fine. However, I got so excited I forgot to make the “/” change but it still works fine. So, either solutions is good. Thanks @roberte

Yeah. Bug or hacker. I read somewhere in the last few days there would be a BP upgrade sooo possibly some artifact from that?

Well … heck. This conflicts with BP Chat. I got tons of error messages. So, deactivated BP Chat and I see the above code at the top of the browser window and the function won’t work. hmmmm.

Consider me in … for example, creating a gamer fan site so the SuperGroup might be “XBOX” subGroups might “Kinect” and Electronic Arts. subGroups of “Kinect” might be each of the games for Kinect and subgroups of EA might be their individual games.
