  • Thank u hnla! Now I’m just struggling with the group blogs on my site.
    https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/problem-w-creating-groups-avatar-step-does-not-work-cant-complete/

Thanks for that link. I’m going to have to do a lot of studying and hard work since I don’t code PHP. I really appreciate all your help!

Alright back again… this is what I have done.

    Deactivated every plugin
    Cleared cache and cookies
    Closed browser
    Came back and logged in
    Created group
    Everything worked fine
Started to re-activate plugins one by one
    Started first with BP Groupblog
    It actually WORKED
Until I went to the last phase which was invites (I have no members) so I just clikced next.
    Got this error:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/xxxxx/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bp-groupblog/bp-groupblog-admin.php on line 23

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/xxxxx/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bp-groupblog/bp-groupblog-admin.php:23) in /home/xxxxx/public_html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 890

    http://i28.tinypic.com/vpkivs.jpg

Any ideas what is causing this Invalid argument?

I’m going to disable it again. But I would really like to get Group Blogs working if possible.

Oppps… spoke too soon. Now it’s broken again.

So basically php safe mode is off and open base restriction is disabled.

I activated the plugin BP GroupBlogs Version: 1.4.4: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-groupblog/

When I did this, I noticed that when I went through the process to create a group, that part came up blank and then I would be sent to the WP failure notice that says:
Are you sure you want to do this?

    Please try again.

After that I could not move past to the Avatar upload step.

So I disabled the plugin, but then it would do the WP error at the Avatar step and now it’s not working again.

Here is a video of exactly what I did:
    http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/3226/grpblogavatarissue.mp4

My host said that if there is any info anyone here at BP can give them, they can look into it, but I’m just not sure what the issue is.

    Thanks!

I have actually done a fresh install of WP to enable the network and so far it seems to work. I have to test it out to see if every user gets their own blog. Not really sure how it all works with BP.

When I did the fresh install the forums worked. It must have been some sort of error on my part or a conflict as I had done a lot of messing about to get a nicer theme. This time I used a fresh install of WP, activated Network and then used BP default theme. I will have to spend some time learning BP themeing to get a nicer looking theme for my site. That will take some time I am sure.

    Thanks for all your help!

OK they fixed it. They had to disable php safe mode to get it working.

Thanks for the tips and help :)

I just emailed them. I did a complete re-install of WP so I could get a fresh start to enable the newtowrk. I got the same open_basedir restriction when trying to upload avatars, but this time I at least got more useable error info to email the host with. This is what it said this time:
Warning: is_dir() [function.is-dir]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/) is not within the allowed path(s): (/home/wwwnatf:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/tmp) in /home/wwwnatf/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 2037

Warning: file_exists() [function.file-exists]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/) is not within the allowed path(s): (/home/wwwnatf:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/tmp) in /home/wwwnatf/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 2028

Upload Failed! Error was: Unable to create directory /group-avatars/1. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I wonder if it’s just a CHMOD issue or a CHOWN one?

    EDIT
Ok Tech mailed me back with this:
I have disabled open base restriction for, natfriends.com. Please check it now and let us know if you need any further assistance.

But I still can’t upload. When I do I get this error message:
Upload Failed! Error was: Unable to create directory /group-avatars/1. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Where is this directory “/group-avatars/1” what folder does it live in? Maybe permissions need to be 755?

    Thanks!

Also, just tried to disable all plugins to see if there was a conflict, but even with all plugins (except BP) deactivated, I can not make a forum post.

hnla; Thanks so much! So should I ask my host how to turn open_basedir on? I can do stuff via .htaccess.. for example I have Register Globals off via .htaccess on another site I have on that host.

Basically, what command am I looking to enable?

    Thanks!

    hnla:

From what I can see on the backend, it’s set up.

    See screenshot: http://i28.tinypic.com/2nsnij4.jpg

It says: “bbPress forum integration in BuddyPress has been set up correctly. If you are having problems you can re-install

NOTE: The forums directory will only work if your bbPress tables are in the same database as your WordPress tables. If you are not using an existing bbPress install you can ignore this message.”

Any ideas? It’s really a weird thing!

    Hi hnla,

I am using WP3.0 (a fresh install). I will follow the guide to get multisites via the link you left… really I just want everyone to have a blog if that’s possible and get all the recent entries to show on the home page.

As for the forums… yes I have enabled them in the backend, see screenshot here >> http://i29.tinypic.com/vzebsx.png
I’m wondering if you might have time to register and test this? It’s odd.. the post just disappears into the ether. The site is at http://www.natfriends.com

The profile on the default theme is fine! It’s the other theme I had that made things completely nonsensical (it’s not a BP theme, just a regular theme with a plugin to give BP function… but it’s not good!). It just was terrible. Couldn’t make any sense of anything in user profiles.

I’ve switched to the default theme. It’s not as ‘pretty’ as my other theme that I had, but it sure makes a lot more sense. I am not yet at the stage of themeing.. this is my first run at using BuddyPress… so I’m learning all of it on the fly (like most people who come here I guess).

If I could just get the forum posts to work, I’d be set….

Thanks so much for the help!

    Hi Ray!

Thanks for your answer. I am thinking many of my troubles are caused by the theme i was using. I have switched to BP default for now.

I am honestly not comfortable working with any sort of script as I am not a developer at all. I was wondering, once I have installed bbPress (which I did), can I uninstall it. I’m not sure it’s even working.

I can’t even post a forum topic whatsoever. I will go to post a topic and enter the info and the entire posting screen disappears and nothing posts. Is this a bug in BP do you think? It’s baffling me.

Thank you for clarifying the auto group join. That’s really handy.

So I guess my main questions is why aren’t posts working? I switched the theme to see if that was the culprit, but it does not seem so. Are there any settings I should check? So far I’m the only member and I am Admin.

    Thanks so much!

    Hi Work,

I am using WordPress Version 3.0 and BuddyPress 1.2.5.2 at the moment.

This method works like a charm.

Lovely and thank you for the assistance :)

    Hi Paul,

Ok, how do I do this? I’ve never done it before. Could you show me an example of the code and where to locate where the main navigation might be? I can send you the header.php if that helps.

    Thanks!
