Newbie here. Is this plugin really only compatible up to 3.1? What about 3.4.2? I’m looking to build a complete private Buddypress community for family and friends as a test bed for another site I have in mind. The subject of my site is my family’s genealogy so I may wan’t my users to go on to invite other contacts without necessarily telling me first. So complete lock down won’t do, I wan’t my users to be able to request registration, their requests then being subject to admin (my) approval. Can this plugin do that out of the box without tweaking?

I’m running WordPress with WP_DEBUG on and there’s a couple of E_NOTICE level errors in your code.

The first is on line 102, the variable `$protection` is not defined.
This can easily be fixed by adding on line 100:
`else
$protection = false;
`
That ensures the $protection variable gets set.

The second one is on line 86, Uninitialized string offset: 0.
So line 86 can be changed to:
` if ( $bp->current_action == ‘feed’ || ( isset($bp->action_variables[0]) && $bp->action_variables[0] == ‘feed’ ) )`

I hope this helps and thanks again for your plugin.

Hiya!

I seem to remember that I knew how to do this, but after some upgrades and canges on my server the necessary adjustments have been gone and I’m a bit lost.

When non-logged-in users click on one of the Buddypress tabs (Activity, Groups, …) they are currently redirected to the admin login. I understand that to redirect them to e.g. a login page, I have to add code to a file called functions.php, as explained in the FAQ for this plugin. However, there are still a few things that I don’t know or don’t understand:

1) I can’t find functions.php in my Buddypress installation. Do I have to create it? If so, which directory do I have to use?
2) Where *exactly* do I have to insert the redirect URL in the code? Do I have to put it in inverted commas?

Regards,

Andreas.

Latest WordPress — 3.1.2, and BuddyPress — 1.2.8 multisite (network), multi user
Install bp-profile-privacy manually into wp-content/plugins
Do a Network Activate
Instructions say to use Settings -> Privacy
In Network Admin there is no ‘Privacy’ under Settings
In Network Admin : BuddyPress there is no ‘Privacy’ option
In Site Admin , the Settings -> Privacy only lists the privacy settings for blogs on the whole site.
I do have ‘Sitewide Privacy Options for WordPress Multisite’ active but that should not interfere?
Just not visible.

How does Private BuddyPress play with More Privacy Options and/or Network Privacy?

I want to make sure that my network blogs (including main blog) are:
1) Hidden from search engines, and
2) Are only visible to logged-in members (including BuddyPress features), and
3) I want blog posts to show in BP Activity Stream.

With Private BuddyPress installed, and set to “I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors”, item (1) and (2) are covered, BUT blog posts don’t show in activity stream because BuddyPress filters “private” blogs.

By adding More Privacy Options (or, I assume, Network Privacy), I get three additional options.

When I select “Blog visible to any logged in community member”, it seems to allow blog posts to show in activity stream again. Does anyone have any experience with a combination like this? Am I missing something that might be a security/privacy issue? Has anyone had conflicts between the plugins?

Also, how would Private BuddyPress differ from the combination of More Privacy Options + BP MPO Activity Filter?

Thanks!

Registration in this case starts working when I set the second option – exclude from protection “Blog pages (posts, archives and non-buddypress pages)”
But why the hell? I need to hide all of my network, without showing parts of it.

It would be excellent if we could define extra (specific) pages/directories to be visible (_ex_cluded from protection).

I am also having this problem aswell.

If a user tries to connect to the community, they are thrown the log in page. The user then clicks the registration tab and it does not let them see the registration page. I have changed the settings in the Settings -> Privacy to exclude the registration page, but it does not work.
