404's BP components on subdirectory install

    Hi BP folks.

The problem, succinctly: BP component pages go 404 when I do a subdirectory install of WPMU. Groups, Blogs, Forums, and Activity components all produce a 404 when trying to visit them (but the Members component works)

The bad part here is that it’s inconsistent across hosting setups. It works on 3, but fails on 1 & 2:

    1. Local dev (Mac) Apache/2.2.13, PHP 5.3.0, MySQL 5.0.5
    2. Client’s host (their own hardware) Apache 1.3.41, PHP 5.2.12, MySQL 5.0.89
    3. MediaTemple-based Dev SiteApache/2.0.54, PHP 5.2.6, MySQL

I’m trying to debug this, but both WP and BP URL handling are some serious voodoo to me. Any help here would be appreciated.

First, here’s the 411 on my setup:

    1. Which version of WP/MU are you running? WPMU 2.9.2

    2. Did you install WP/MU as a directory or subdomain install? subdomain

    3. If a directory install, is it in root or in a subdirectory? root

    4. Did you upgraded from a previous version of WP/MU? If so, from which version? fresh install

    5. Was WP/MU functioning properly before installing/upgrading BuddyPress (BP)? e.g. permalinks, creating a new post, commenting. yes

    6. Which version of BP are you running? 1.2.1

    7. Did you upgraded from a previous version of BP? If so, from which version? no

    8. Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated? No.

    9. Are you using the standard BuddyPress themes or customized themes? Using a child theme of the 1.2 default

    10. Have you modified the core files in any way? No

    11. Do you have any custom functions in bp-custom.php? No

    12. If running bbPress, which version? Or did your BuddyPress install come with a copy of bbPress built-in? Installed through build-in installer.

    13. Please provide a list of any errors in your server’s log files. None applicable

    14. Which company provides your hosting? See above.
