A few problems with Album+ on WordPress 3.0

    @vsimovic

    Hello,

i have installed your BP plugin because i wanted to let users put pictures on their on profiles, others to comment it and so on. I also wanted to be sure that administrator can delete the picture, comment activity regarding puting new picture etc.

When i tested it i’ve experienced a few problems:
    1. When a user uploaded picture to his album, activity came up on the activity page. Activity contained also a thumbnail of the pic even if i selected that i don’t want a thumbnail to be shown.

    2. When i logged in as an administrator and deleted the activity suddenly possibility to comment the photo was disabled even if user said that others can comment his photo. Also a comment that was there before was also deleted. Deleting the activity deletes things connected to that photo?

    3. When i tried to delete the user’s photo it said that i don’t have permission to do this. Strange, because i am an administrator and should be able to do that.

I have installed your plugin on WordPress 3.0 and BuddyPress 1.2.5.

Here it says that your plugin is compatible up to wp 2.9.2. If this is causing the problem than can you tell me when will you post version of the plugin which is compatible with new WP? Or you can just tell me what to do to make all these things work.

I hope that you will reply fast because i need a fast solution to this.

    Thanks in advance,

    Veljko Simovic

All of the things you’ve described are *normal* behavior for BP Album+ 0.1.7.

If you’re an experienced WordPress user and are comfortable using tools like phpMyAdmin, you might want to try out the latest version 0.1.9 nightly build, which is posted in the forum. It has much more advanced features.

Well it seems to me that these “normal” behaviors more look like things that should be better.

Ok, i will find this latest version and try to do more with it. Hope that these things are better in 0.1.9

Hey, i’ve found the zip and installed the plugin, you don’t need to send me the link.

It does have more options and plugin looks much better. I can see the progress. :)

I wanted to post some stuff which i think are not working:
    - still wp administrator can’t delete pics of other members, i think that this should be done first
    - when i tag myself on a picture, option to tag more friends disappear
    - “click here to add more friends” gets me back to website home page. I guess that this is still in progress
    - i can see in social settings that members can rate pics, but on front side i can’t see anywhere that option when i am looking at the picture
    - “media of me” gives me 404 page

    Advises:
    - taging yourself works, but it would be kind of cool if user can tag it like on Facebook. To actualy click the spot on the picture where is the person who he/she wants to tag.

    Any tips on this?
    - next to the comments area there is an “Extended data ” place with more details about the pics such as which camera, exposure etc. I kind of don’t need that, where can i turn it off?
    - About this photo is cool. Reuse and Licensing is something that’s putted there because of the ownership of the plugin or because of the pic? I would also like to remove that part

Hope that these things will help and speed up reaching final 0.1.9 version of Album+. I would like to ask you, if you can as soon as posible,to develop this posibility for administrators to delete pictures of other members.

Thanks and looking forward to your reply

Take a look at our Google Code issue tracker for the latest updates on which features are working, and which features are currently being built.

Yea, i know that page. I have posted an issue about this problem that administrator can’t delete pics. :) But i can’t see that issue. You didn’t accept t?

I would also like to print a few pics from member’s album on the front page of it’s profile. Can you maybe help me how to achieve this?

    Thanks

Is this the defect you are referring to?

Re: I would also like to print a few pics from member’s album on the front page of it’s profile. Can you maybe help me how to achieve this?

Several users have been able to implement a “Latest uploads” functionality in version 0.1.7 by setting filters on the site activity screen. Just browse the forums and look at their code.

Version 0.1.9 has a very sophisticated “Featured content” system that lets you do everything seen on sites like Facebook and Flickr.

If you don’t know how to code in PHP, you can just add do_action( 'bp_album_featured_sitewide' ); to your template, but remember this only works with 0.1.9.

You can grab the latest plugin versions on our open source project page: http://code.google.com/p/buddypress-media/

    Thanks!

Yes, that’s the defect. I postd it from my google account. I see that it’s fixed. Can i just download the package and rewrite the files on my server?

Regarding latest photos i’ve managed to write my own scrpt for that. Thanks for your advise. :)

0.1.9 nightly build, i’ve downloaded it on 2010-06-26

    @vsimovic

Yes, that version of the plugin’s nightly build will automatically upgrade to the current plugin version posted on the BP Media download page:

    http://code.google.com/p/buddypress-media/downloads/list

So just download bp-album-2010-07-15.zip, copy over the exiting files, deactivate, activate, and you’re good to go.

Right, i’ll do that. I see that you already have 2010-07-18.zip uploaded so i will use this one instead :)

Tried this new ver. and admin can delete pics from other members so that’s ok, but now when you open some pic from the album, sidebar on that page disappears. On other pages sidebar shows up regulary.

It’s not that big problem, but i t would look better with sidebar :)

    Cheers ;)

Well, why don’t you figure out what’s wrong with our CSS that’s causing the problem to happen, and let us know. That way we can get the problem fixed much faster.

    Thanks!

Hey i have a question regarding latest photos. I am displaying 5 latest photos user uploaded, but the page is downloading full size pics.

What i would like to do is to display thumbnails, like inside of the album. I see that plugin makes some cache folders, but don’t have a clue how to get them to show on the page.

I have an sql query that get’s url of the pics from the databse table based on user’s id, but don’t know how to connect that to these thumb images.

    Any help with this?

@vsimovic I wrote a documentation page on the wiki for you. It explains how to use the plugin to display customized featured content.

Update of the problem: Error comes up when you’re logged in BP and want to look at some pic. When user is logged page is displayed properly. Seems like this page has some problem with log in place holder or something like that.

I see that you released new nightly build. Is there a posibility to overwrite files, but to keep somehow the pics and data from database?

I’m curious too, if we use the nightly build, when the stable version comes out, will we loose all data and photos or can we just overwrite the files with the upgrade? Would love to get the latest install to use the newest features. Thanks, rg.

Just noticed that limit to the file size is not working properly. I’ve set limit on 100kb and managed to upload the pic which was over 200kb…

    Any clue about this?

Re: DB Files – No, you have to delete all uploaded files and all DB tables or you will get strange errors.

Re: Upload size limit not being enforced – There is now an issue tracker entry for this problem http://code.google.com/p/buddypress-media/issues/detail?id=18

You will lose all data when the stable version comes out, unless:

    a) you are using version 0.1.7 …or
    b) you are using a version of 0.1.9 that has a completed data model.

We’re working as fast as we can to get the data model finished. We’ll make a post to let everyone know when its done.
