Activation E-mails not being sent

Hey, I have browsed through many forums but can’t seem to find an answer. When a user registers to my site, activation e-mails are not being sent. I have tested it myself. I checked junk folders and tried it on Yahoo and Hotmail. I tried plugins such as Mail From and WP-Mail-SMTP. I just set-up the site so no user has ever been able to register. I am using the current version of wordpress and buddypress. Any help?
