admin menu in back end does not appear after activation

    the title says it all. I can’t see the menu item in the back end.
    I do fulfill all requirements except for PHP: I am running PHP 5.2.6-1+lenny9 with Suhosin-Patch 0.9.6.2 – is that a problem?

    Its a brand new installation of wp with multi site (only user registration enabled; no blogs) with buddypress (latest as of 5 minutes ago)
    all other plugins are disabled. nothign in my error logs.

    where did you download the plugin from? Its not yet in the wordpress repository because they are having some problems.
    Please grab the plugin from the buddystream.net website.
