Am I downloading the wrong thing? I’ve been excited for the release today for a month or two now and I downloaded

    BP-Media Nightly Build for 2010-12-01

but that just creates a “Media” tab that links to the account’s activity stream

I downloaded this and put it in my plugins folder but it didn’t change anything

And it is giving me this error

“Fatal error: Cannot redeclare bp_album_init() (previously declared in /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/media/wp-content/plugins/bp-media/loader.php:34) in /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/media/wp-content/plugins/bp-album/loader.php on line 24″

Yeah, I’m also wondering what happened to releasing the beta today… like it was shown on the now erased google calendar. Looking at the new tracking site posted yesterday, I don’t see any note about a beta release… but that the final plugin will be released Jan 10th. I was hoping to have the beta to start getting ready for the final version :-/

To put it in simple terms, we were not able to meet our goal for releasing 0.1.9 this month.

Instead, we put our effort into fixing some serious bugs in version 0.1.8 that were causing problems for people, so that they could more effectively use the plugin on their production sites while we finish version 0.1.9.

By our best estimates, we think the team will have a beta of 0.1.9 ready at the end of January. You can follow us “up to the second” by watching our project tracker, located here: http://bit.ly/f5zPJ9

We are sorry if this has caused you any problems.

Perhaps you might consider joining our development team and helping us write code so we can get it finished faster? … http://bit.ly/fIMVpF

    Thanks!

The reason it is crashing is because you have *two* copies of the plugin installed …hence the error “Cannot redeclare bp_album_init() (previously declared in /Application…etc”.

Just deactivate your old copy (0.1.8) and leave your new copy (0.1.8.6) running. It will work just fine. Or you can wait until we publish 0.1.8.6 to the SVN next week and it will automatically upgrade for you.

    Thanks!

@foxly thanks for the info. The older 2010-12-1 version would just create a tab titled “Media” that just linked to the activity stream page, since the new 0.1.8.6 folder is only 385k so I assumed it was just some extra or fixed files to replace the old ones. When I run 0.1.8.6 by itself it is almost exactly the current stable release with only one album per user and no other features.

To properly upgrade using the .zip archive posted on our Google Code site, you have to delete all the files in the bp-album directory and replace them with the new files in the .zip archive. WordPress will automatically do this for users when we post the upgrade to the WordPress plugin repository.

In terms of features, version 0.1.8.6 is almost identical to version 0.1.8. It has some major bug fixes, and we also added a function for the site admin to post *all* public images to the activity stream.

@foxly well its just confusing because an earlier version did have multiple albums and a few other things.

Version 0.0.0.0 to 0.1.8.x have never supported albums. Version 0.1.9.x does.

We have three simultaneous versions in development: release (0.1.8.x), development (0.1.9.x), and planning (0.2.0.x) ….and you’re right, it does get a bit complicated to follow what’s happening with all of them.

By far the easiest way to keep track of what’s going on is to visit our project tracker… http://bit.ly/f5zPJ9 where all the tasks and deliverables for each version are neatly organized and updated in real time. Note you have to click on the “icebox” tab to see the 0.2.0 tasks.

    Thanks!

I don’t remember the numbers, it was one of those alpha or beta deals, and it supported more than one album and exif info and some other stuff. But then this version doesn’t do any of that.

    That is correct.

Version 0.1.8.x only supports a single image album per user. Version 0.1.9.x supports all of the other features you mentioned.
