are there any support to WP3.0 in localization

i have a blog WP3.0.1 & BP1.2.5.2
and i need to tern it into multilingual website
i have a .po & .mo for the plugin and another for the theme, but facing big problems can not make it work
and when i went to http://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/translations/ i fund it talk about WPMU so could it be done on WP3.0 ?
