Basic iPhone theme testing
-
I’m creating a basic theme until jQuery mobile is released. This theme needs more work and it’s a very generic theme. check it out on your iPhone
-
Just what I was waiting for!!!
The activity stream looks very good.
Looks good on iPad
Group page is messy (no tabs, no home/menu, maybe group avatars need to be smaller?)
Forum pages same as above
Blog page I clicked on didn’t workAre you planning to allow posts too for single user installs?
Looking forward to seeing it.
Do iPhone themes also work on android, blackberry phones etc. or just apple?
its not finished. Dont care about Android or Blackberry as i do not own them. That said, if you own one of those devices then check and see if it works

Here’s an iPad emulator: http://www.merhl.com/?page_id=58
And an iPhone emulator: http://www.merhl.com/?page_id=3
Here’s another iPhone emulator (PC only): http://www.genuitec.com/mobile
Thanks, i have real iDevices for testing. Besides desktop emulaters dont work like the real thing. They asked about Android. I don’t have one but if anyone does please test for others. This theme is just a stop gap for something in the works that will be platform independant
Wow, it looks good on the iphone.
It would be awesome if users could see their “nearby” friends using the iphone’s geolocation gps capability.@wamoma Android simulator

haha thanks – I own an android but was being lazy! Have checked on it and it looks great, maybe even better than it did on the ipad. My question was because I didn’t know if the theme was acting as a general mobile theme optimised for istuff or if it only displayed on idevices. Am guessing this means it will display this way on most mobile devices. I don’t own a blackberry but I know some of our users do so sadly I have to care about that

Anyway looks great and its much needed
webkit browsers should be fine. BB uses it’s own engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_browser
Do you think using W3 Total Cache user agent groups would allow this theme to load when iPad or iPhone is identified while the regular theme loads with other browsers? The user agent groups seems to imply this type of behavior is possible. @modemlooper : What do you think?
Looks like webkit might be ok with Blackberry too

I won’t complicate things further, am sure you have enough on your plate already. Happy to test on Android when needed
@LPH2005 not sure but I’m packaging this as a plugin. So it would detect mobile.
tried – won’t let me register. Isn’t giving any error messages, just returns to the register post each time I try to submit the registration form
Mke sure you fill in all fields. Also, sign up via web. I think I need to remove the avatar upload as you can’t upload via mobile.
The Points badge avatar is huge and the achievement page is not styled.
@Ekine Thats a plugin. If you use plugins you’ll have to fix it yourself. I can’t determine in advance what people will use so I’ve only styled the basic BP install. It’s easy enough to add html to a plugins theme files.
Thanks for testing. I need it to see the friend request and message screens populated.
duh! There was a field called “address” into which I put a town. Realised that is actually “email address” (the’ email’ text was pushed to the right of the field above making it look as though the username field was actually email!!
Guess that’s just because am viewing in desktop browser rather than on mobile, but maybe just ‘email’ is better than ‘email address anyway’?
Also the error messages could do with standing out a bit somehow as hard to see them.
Anyway am in! Will play with it later
I need to know what plugins people want to have support for in this theme. I can’t include them all. Below are a few of the ones I plan to include. Let me know of any others you think should be included.
Achievements
Buddystream
BuddyPress Album+
WP-FB-AutoConnect
twit-connect
Buddypress privacyWill it be possible to use Twit-connect and FB auto connect from the mobile theme using a mobile device?
As long as you include BuddyPress Album+ and Privacy I’ll be satisfied (BuddyStream would be cool too).
I think you already went over this but I didn’t quite understand the first time around. Will the plugin require that we have a second domain (e.g. mywebsite.mobi) for it to work, or will the plugin just detect that the browser is a phone and therefore display the BuddiPhone theme?
I’d like to see an event plugin supported (like eventpress http://code.google.com/p/eventpress/). And of course BuddyPress Album+
Cool stuff!
Don’t forget the widely used BP-Links.
