@paulhastings0 it will detect a mobile and use this theme. No need for a secondary blog.

@LPH2005 Some of those plugins are theme independent. I’m not including support for every plugin out there and only choosing a few.

I’m including bp album but you wont be able to upload pics from mobile. Only native apps can access a phones hardware. You will be able to view pics and comment on them but no uploads.

@modemlooper You might find this online webcast tomorrow helpful for developing mobile applications via HTML5 and CSS3. Plus, it’s free: http://creativelive.com/courses/html5mobile/

ok, one last round of testing from mobile phones. Post on the site anything that looks weird.

NOTE: I’m still fine tuning some things but I need users to send messages, create a forum topic and reply.

    Thanks!

If you have an error when you login, it takes you to the default WP login screen.

When I make a mistake on registering, it takes me back to the registration page, but doesn’t tell me what my mistake is.

Is the ‘remember me’ switch just an image at the mo? (wouldn’t work)

In the group forums directory I did a search. The search failed to find anything (which isn’t a problem) but because the search results are towards the bottom (below All topics & my topics) it wasn’t obvious that it had tried the search (had to scroll down to check). Might be easier if either results or at least a message appeared directly below the search box

Also similarly and just a personal preference but seems to me it would be better to have the username towards the top when logged in because thats the place to go to for checking messages, updates etc. With it down the bottom it isn’t obvious where to go.

Same too with friend requests – just seems to be a lot of scrolling down to get at the info you want (I know I’m being fussy but I promise some of my users are dumb enough that they won’t see these things!)

Couldn’t find any errors or problems though – looking really good :-)

“remember me” works it’s just that if you slide it doesn’t, if you tap it it will. I’ll probably remove it and put a basic check. I’m afraid scrolling is inevitable. There is just too much content. Log in at top is a bad idea as well. You will then have to scroll down everytime to get the the links. You login once and then use the nav way more. That should be up top. When this is released you can cut it up all you want and change what ever you like. I needed a mobilized theme while I work on something better. This is the result. Enjoy :)

yeah see what you mean. I was thinking more like having just your username in maybe the very top to the right of the home menu so you can quickly click to get to your profile & updates etc. I didn’t mean the actual login form.

Doesn’t matter anyway if it can be hacked around :)

I intenionally put everything all links and such on this to get feedback about what links are clicked the most and have those options up front and then hide others. This theme like i said is just a stop gap for something app like I’m working on. The challenge is that you really shouldn’t have to scroll for nav items. This theme is the default theme with sidebar removed and different CSS.

This is the day that I’ve been waiting for. I’m definitely going to test it when the plugin is ready for download.

    Thanks, @modemlooper :)

cool, I’ll need feedback on which parts of the UI are a problem so I can code the app I’m working on flow better. I already know scrolling is an issue. I need to know what could be removed / moved.

@modemlooper , At your convenience, Buddypress Links integration is something to consider if you have time. Currently it sneaks in the Activity but doesn’t react if you click it: http://i53.tinypic.com/30ufrqh.png. Also, Links from the user page appear but a bit unaligned.

As far as the core BP components, it’s working great in all areas. Keep up the great work. Thank you.

That’s weird. That links link should fit right into the nav with no problem. I’m adding support for links I haven’t gotten to all the plugin theme files yet.

This is a phenomenal step; having a mobile interface is most excellent. Great work, Modemlooper.

Question: On my installation, going to the usual BP links, e.g. site.com/members, site.com/groups, etc. works perfectly. However, clicking the “Home” link within the mobile UI gives me the text for my homepage, but no links. I have my site configured to use a static page as the home page. I’m *guessing* this throws the plugin a curve, but that’s only a guess. Would it be possible to have the plugin display the menu below/above/instead of the homepage text?

This is really great, just a few things to moan about after a quick test run.

I have a page called topics, which loads my blog directory by topic. That page comes up blank, presumably because it doesn’t run the plugin code to generate the list. It seems the easiest thing to do would be to just create an option to exclude certain pages. I would be fine with that. Not ideal but better than an empty page.

The only other thing I’d like to see is some (minimal) options for maybe adding a header image and/or icons. I do know I can just hack the theme code; still, having those options would be helpful for upgrades, novices, etc.

Thanks for the great work — E

OK, probably should have done this first. I just added the Exclude Pages plugin, which does the job in my case (though I’m sure there are plenty of cases where this would not be the best solution). So now that I have no non-BP pages, I notice that the “pages” heading still appears, with nothing below it. Seems like you could use `wp_list_pages(title_li=whatever)` to call that heading but you might need to adjust the stylesheet a bit.

One last suggestion for now and then I’ll go back to just being grateful.

I think the treatment of the options on the activity page, directories, and profile pages, etc. (the check-able tabs above the filters) is a bit confusing for those not overly familiar with BP. It might be a good idea to treat them as you have the filters (i.e. as drop downs) or perhaps in some other way. Not a big deal, but seemed worth mentioning.

    Again, very cool. Thanks.

A note about mobile UI. You should never include the kitchen sink and give users the most used functions in a simple and streamlined way. Look at any app that has a web counter part and you’ll understand. This theme has every nav item you’d get on the web. I’ve done this intentionally to do testing of what users click most. I’m working on something else that is very much like the facebook app. Though this app will have alot of the menus removed for better usibility.

Drop down menus doesn’t work well on mobile touch devices. If you notice no App really uses it.

If you are using a page template that is not the BP activity or blog posts page then you will have to edit a file. In the plugin folder go into the themes/default and change the file front.php code

    /*
    Template Name: Home
    */

To match the name of the page template you are using.

If you are just using a plain WP page then you’ll have to hold on a bit until I work out forcing a front page regardless of what is chosen in the wp admin.

    Great plugin!

I’m using a customized default BP theme on a standard WP+BP blog (no MU).
The problem is I can’t access the main blog page with this plugin, it just shows the activity stream and the pages, but the main blog is nowhere to be found (in the theme’s header I only see a reference to WP Multisite).

Is Single User WP Blog a planned feature or am I missing somethin?
    Thanks
