BP 1.2 : queries : difference between TYPE and FILTER

Hi, I don’t understand very well what is the difference between TYPE and FILTER when you make an ajax query.

Let’s say I have to select different post_types in a blog inside my custom component.

I should use the TYPE for choosing the post_type (publish,pending,…) and the FILTER to order them ? (last active, newest, etc) ?

Or is it something else ?
