BP Checkins 1.0 (beta) : I need your feedbacks !
-
Hello,
Just before taking a week off under the sun of Cala Marçal in Mallorca, i’ve posted an update on my blog but completely forgot to post it in this group.
So i’ve built a beta of next version of BP Checkins, i would be really thankful if you could test it and send me some feedbacks/bugs in this forum.
You can download it from WordPress trunk directly or read the post on my blog for more infos.
Hope to read you soon

Just to say that both bp checkins 0.1 and bp checkins 1.0 (beta) with buddypress 1.6 RC1 & RC2 and wp 3.4.1 appear to work (and alongside a lot of other bp plugins) with Safari.
So far both versions appear to be working as intended. Though I have not yet tested the various options in bp checkins 1.0 (beta) available at http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/bp-checkins.zip nor properly read the docs on same available at https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2322874/ExtendBuddyPress-part2-en.pdf. It’s looking good.
Thanks a lot for your feedback @valuser
my friend your plugin won’t work in other browsers for instance I tried it in Internet Explorer and it won’t detect my location.
Hello Imath,
Got the same problem as ramnjan. The plugin is not working on either BP 1.5.6, BP 1.5.7 and several kind of browsers. I’ve tested it on Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, etc.
Is this a BP 1.5.6. / 1.5.7 related problem as it works well on BP 1.6?Hello @raminjan, @kookidooki,
Thanks for your feedbacks, i’ve tested the plugin on Safari, Firefox and Chrome on BP 1.5.6/7 and BP 1.6 and the HTML5 geolocation API returns me the position.
Please check your version can handle this API :
http://caniuse.com/#feat=geolocationSo far i didn’t manage to reproduce the trouble.
@imath
I was about to ask if you were going to update this plugin. Can you get to me privately?
My email is admin @ blogmylunch . com
I am making a site that I want users to also be able to checkin to foursquare and to restaurants listed on my site. I’m using pods cms for the restaurant directory and i need help with the PHP calls to use your plugin properly.Nofia
Anyhow, I’ll test it on blogmylunch and let you know.
Thanks for your interest for this plugin.
What’s in the trunk (http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/bp-checkins.zip) of the plugin is the next version, i should tag it version 1.0 and make it available from WordPress repo real soon.
You’ll see that BP Checkins is now coming with a custom post type to create places (in your case restaurant) where people will be able to checkin or post images / comments.
The foursquare functions of this plugin are getting the foursquare checkins of users and import them as activities.
I hope you’ll like what you will soon test on blogmylunch as you said you were planing to do so on your second post.
Hi @kookidooki,
I sent you an email as i’ve tested your config earlier this morning. But for all the BP Checkins users :
If you already use a plugin that uses google maps, then it may cause a javascript conflict with BP Checkins. That’s what’s happening on kookidooki’s config. So i’ll guess, you’ll need to choose between plugins
@imath
I’m testing it now.Two issues:
1) When I added a community place (with checkins network activated), it didn’t show up, it just disappeared.2) the check ins page displaces the sidebar to the bottom of the page. I am using Balance by Presscrew, a new responsive BP theme..
As I said, I would like to use this with Pods because Pods allows all kinds of really cool post customization and sorting on a site.
You can reach me at admin @ blogmylunch.com
I’m into this plugin and am psyched to see it work. Best of luck and I’m happy to help.Nofia
OK, I deactivated the plugin and reactivated it (only on the home blog, not on the network) and I tried adding a community place again today and it worked.
The PressCrew is installing your plugin on Balance theme to see what happens to make the sidebar fall off and go to the bottom, and they’ll get back to me about it, so I’ll fill you in when I have answers.
blogMYlunch is intended as an international site, but since I am in Israel and also making another site for people who keep kosher, it would be nice to be able to add other categories (ie: for handicapped accessibility, etc) .that was why I planned to use Pods originally.
Hello @lunchgirl
i’ve only tested the plugin on the BuddyPress default theme, but for theme issues, you can add a copy of the different templates of the plugin located in /bp-checkins/templates into your active theme’s folder. Once there, you’ll be able to edit the html to avoid the sidebar issue.
Thanks for your feedbacks.
@imath
I am a novice and without step by step instructions, I wouldn’t know where to start. Anyway, because Balance is supposed to work with BuddyPress natively, they are working the issues out in their theme for your plugin.Does the plugin send checkins to Foursquare?
No, it only imports them

I seriously need check ins that go to foursquare too. Will have to see what can be done.
