If your a beginner you should have just used the register page and changed the name tile to “Sign Up” and changed the slug of that same page to “sign-up.” Learn a bit more and get versed in the codex before you start customizing and changing things so much since you are a beginner. Basically you need to learn to crawl before you walk. Don’t jump into the deep end until you have some basic strokes! After all your on localhost so that is where you perfect things before putting it on a live server so study the codex, and have fun!

That was about the most useless response anyone could have provided. Cheers

if someone could offer advice i would appreciate it.

You asked for advice and I gave it to you.

That was about the most useless response anyone could have provided.

Given your demeanor don’t expect anyone to spoon feed what you did wrong when you supplied little information to begin with and when someone offers friendly advice you make a rude comment. Search the forums for similar issues and study the codex.

I can understand your frustration with a problematic installation and know that you want help asap. Remember though all who help out in the forums are volunteers from all over the world with different ways of responding to questions posted here. What’s kosher for some may be impudent to others. Moving on…

i have the register page set to my sign up page but nothing appears.

    – You mean you created a blank page with title/slug for registration, and then assigned that page to Registration in Settings > BuddyPress > Pages, right?
    – What do you mean when you say nothing appears? Is it white screen in front and no source view or do you just see the title Register (or slug you chose) and no registration forms below?
    – Are you on MAMP, WAMP, or XAMPP?
    – Are you using a custom theme or have you tried using Twenty Twelve theme or the BP Default theme?
    – Yes Register page and Activate page are separate because each page has a different function.

I am using MAMP. When I installed the plugin I set the register page to a new blank sign up page. when I installed the plugin there was no register or activate page created, that’s why I changed the setting to a new page. If I navigate to that page the site appears but there is no sign up or account registration form. It’s just a blank page.

I am using the responsive theme and I would try using another theme to see if it works, however, I deleted the bb plugin to try reinstalling but now can not. I just receive this error –

“An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.”

    Thanks for the help

@bp help – please read your comment and realize how it addresses nothing, and in no way uses deductive reasoning to try and come to a solution, which is the point of a forum. Rather you come across as arrogant and condescending and in no way helpful.

@mercime – I was able to get the plugin reinstalled. When I go into the settings for bp there is no page set for register. So, I just created a new page and called it “sign up” and assigned it to “register” and when I press view I just get the home page. Still no registration form or anything buddypress related.

No further references to attitudes and responses please otherwise I’ll close the thread.

Switching to another theme is always possible, if not you have a problem with your WP install not BP plugin. WP needs to function fully and correctly before adding any plugins like BP. You may now be better off re-installing WP and starting over?

Registration is a WP function so ensure it is enabled in settings>general

Permalinks are important, you must be able to set anything other than default ‘?p=’ type permalink structure for BP to work (don’t think this is an issue though)

I just tried twenty twelve theme and still nothing. I do have registration enabled and permalinks set to post name. I’ll try reinstalling WP.

    @dmd54 what hnla said.

When I press view I just get the home page

That’s default behavior when you go to register page while you’re logged in. Log out first.

Ok. I was finally able to get WP to reinstall and it appears to be working now.

    Thanks
