BuddyPress Docs 1.0-beta release

    @boonebgorges

I’ve just announced the first public beta for BuddyPress Docs, my collaborative editing plugin for BP. It creates a tab in the Groups interface (and, soon, in the profile interface as well) where users can collaboratively create and edit text documents. The plugin features full rich text editing on the BP front end, full taxonomy support, easy sorting/filtering/search over doc directories, and much more.

For now, I’m calling it a beta – I want you to put it through its paces (on a development server please!) so I can iron out wrinkles and call it stable. Then I can start on new feature development (of which there will be a lot!).

See this blog post http://teleogistic.net/2011/03/new-buddypress-plugin-buddypress-docs/ and the BuddyPress Docs page on my blog http://teleogistic.net/code/buddypress/buddypress-docs/ for more details. You can also report bugs, request features, submit patches, and generally follow development on the plugin at http://github.com/boonebgorges/buddypress-docs

Just a few things that occurred right out of the box for me, most of which I was able to fix myself. When editing a doc, a border is thrown up around my widgets in the sidebar, pulling from some css in wp-admin (weird). Also, the tinymce-like editing toolbars don’t appear until I click on the visual/html tabs. This was true across browsers. And finally, the docs search field out of the box pulled from my ‘current’ sitewide search, a plugin called Search-Engine. Everything else seemed to work just fine and dandy.

Thanks for testing! I was indeed importing the WP admin CSS and thought it would be a bear to take it out – but actually it ended up being super easy. See https://github.com/boonebgorges/buddypress-docs/issues/46 and the corresponding commit.

I have seen the tinymce toolbar problem before – I think it’s theme related (doesn’t happen in bp-default). I’ll look into it https://github.com/boonebgorges/buddypress-docs/issues/47

Strange that the search would be screwed up like that. I probably can’t make adjustments in the plugin itself for all the popular search plugins, but I would be interested to hear if you find a fix for that.

I am really impressed with this. Great job.

Great plugin, just one problem for me though. It only seems to display a max of 10 docs with no indication (pagination) there are any other docs available. I’ve tried disabling other plugins and using the default theme but no change. I can search from the Docs page and find any of the missing docs so they are there and can be accessed and edited once found. They are viewable from the backend as well.

I suspect something in the docs-loop.php might be the problem but I’m more a designer than a coder.
The site is running a WP3.1 network with sub-domains and BP1.2.8
I have BP running on a sub-domain quite successfully using the call in wp-config.php
    ‘define( ‘BP_ROOT_BLOG’, 10 );’

Other than this it’s a great plugin and fits my client’s needs perfectly, so I would rather resolve the problem than look for an alternative.

@pgd101 – Good catch. I forgot to do anything with pagination :)

I can throw in a quick fix that will simply show all docs on a single page (no need for pagination). Then I’ll work on something more robust. I’ll release another beta version in the upcoming days.

Thanks for trying it out and for reporting the problem!

Glad to help Boone, your quick fix will do just fine for my needs. I take it I can just pull down the latest build from GitHub. I’ll drop a note here when updated.

    Thanks for the quick response.

Sent you a donation as a thank you for this amazing plugin. Really appreciate the effort. :)

Hi Boone, tried the latest build from github but I’m still only seeing a max of ten docs listed on the group’s doc page. Am I missing something or is it perhaps a theme issue?

    ? You’re not missing anything, I just haven’t fixed it yet. https://github.com/boonebgorges/buddypress-docs/issues#issue/49

Sorry about that, just jumped on this morning and grabbed the latest master to try it. Very presumptuous of me I know. Anyway I just pulled down the commit for this and everything is working great. Thanks again for all your help.
