BuddyPress in Virtual Folder

I’ve seen this discussed here but no real definite explanation of how this site (buddypress.org) has set it up so that activity/groups/members are all in a “folder” but it seems like it’d be a nice feature to be able to implement on sites (obviously since it’s working well here).
Does anyone know a definitive way of doing this that won’t screw things up? The code `define ( ‘BP_ACTIVITY_SLUG’, ‘folder/activity’ );` does not seem to work.
