Buddypress & Plugin Activiation Problems

Hi,
I’m not sure if this is a problem with my setup or with buddypress or wordpress. Any help would be appreciated.
I have a test version of my site running on MAMP with WordPress MU 2.9.1.1 and Buddypress 1.2. Everything is running great but when I try to install Buddypress on WordPress (not WordPress MU) or activate the Buddypress Links plugin MAMP becomes unresponsive.
Safari throws up the error:
Safari can’t open the page “http://192.168.1.101/network/wp-admin/plugins.php?activate=true&plugin_status=all&paged=1†because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again.
Any idea why that could be happening?

I believe I have a similar problem . Here’s copy from my sever error log. This may help if someone knows what it means.
