BuddyPress Scalability

How can we find out the scalability of BuddyPress? We have a single WP/BP site that has currently over 300000 BP groups and sub-groups (BP Group Hierarchy) and it is expected to grow to possibly 4 times this number. It is already showing signs of strain (it’s very slow) and I fear we might have taken the wrong approach. Any insight on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

are you sure? 300,000 that is one heck of a lot of groups not sure that I can think of any circumstance where one could ever need that many or how one would ever find anything – might help describing how this works on the site – as for scaling really not sure but I would be expecting it to start slowing things down somewhat.
