My users do not like the groups and then Forums within groups, but we’ve been configured that way since launch with BP 1.5 and WP 3.3.4. Is there any way to uninstall the Group thing and Group Forums and switch to Sitewide forums, and preserve all the existing posts? Or are the two simply not compatible?

I don’t understand why not as it looks like the group forums use some sort of bbpress implementation, why would they not be compatible to switch back and forth?

Any help is appreciated

The groups DO use a bbPress implementation (bbPress v1.x). In a future release of BuddyPress and bbPress (v2.x), you’ll be able to do what you want.
