Cannot add specific user to a group

    Hi, hope there will be somebody who can help me because i really cannot find what’s wrong.

    For some reason the only users that I can add to a group are users I created myself within the backend/dashboard of WordPress. But in case a user is created within the front end (using WooCommerce webshop) this user cannot be added to a group. What is the difference between these two users? At first I thought there was something wrong with WooCommerce, but I tested it on my test version of wordpress (different domain/installation, but same versions/set-up) and then there is no problem at all. Both users can be added to a group there, so it should work. So something else must be wrong, but what???

    I am using all the latest versions, since I just started to build this website (still under construction mode) so all installations are new. It did’t help to delete and reinstall Buddypress and BBpress.

    What to do now? Thank you for your help!!!

    Use Dashboard > Users to see if their Role types are the same.

    Thank you shanebp, I am afraid I tried al kind of different roles to see if it would make any difference, but no luck with that….

    Did you try switching to a theme like WP 2012?

    Although that won’t explain why the same setup on a different domain works, still it would be a clue.

    I just switched to the 2011 theme (or should I use 2012?). Well, no difference. Then I disabled all plugins except buddy press. Still no luck. Then I double-checked the users. Played again with roles (site and forum), but it doesn’t even work when I make my user administrator. Both users are exactly the same (for what I can see) and still the one I created within the Dashboard can be added to a group and the other one not. Same setup on a different domain works flawlessly… 🙁

    Any other clues that you can think of? The only thing I didn’t do yet (because I am afraid off possible compatibility problems…) is upgrading my wordpress to 3.6. I did say that I have all the latest versions (in fact I just installed everything new a few weeks ago), but that update 3.6 must have been released very recently while I was on Holiday. Still the other setup has the same WordPress version, so it should work without…

    Problem found! WooCommerce has an option build in that creates a username automatically using the supplied email address during the checkout. BuddyPress apparently doesn’t accept an emailadres as a username (which makes sense). Now that option is disabled everything is fine again. Thanks!
