You might need to update your permalinks for the site your forums are activated on.
Also make sure you have assigned a page to the forums component. Under the BuddyPress admin menu is a link called pages.
I think we’re talking about bbPress 2.0 rather than the forum directory.

ElDitcho: Yes, you either need to put the BuddyPress forum directory under a different page name, or change bbPress’ forum to live under a different name.
So the page sets in Buddypress conf is useless?
No, they do different things. You can’t expect BuddyPress to set a bbPress setting, or vice-versa. If you run bbPress 2.0 with the bundled version that comes with BuddyPress, you need a little elbow grease.
Ok I changed the page name and url but it still acts funny with strange urls.

I’m not sure if this is the correct way to do it, but what I did was: disable the group forum component in BP settings; delete the forums page that BP installed (because I like to use /forums) but I found you can also use a different slug. If you go to WP Settings > Forums it has a bunch of bbPress settings.
One thing I cannot figure out so far is why I keep on getting the following error message in Appearance: “Your active theme does not include bbPress template files. Your forums are using the default styling included with bbPress.”
Otherwise it looks fine in the bp-default theme. Anyone know why that happens?
It also seems bbpress needs a bunch of plugins to make it work like nice sites I’ve come across.
I really like the site-wide forums though, was never really a fan of group forums. Thanks for the choice!

So the message in Appearance isn’t an error just informational. I’ll just ignore it then.
The problem I’m having with the site wide forum is that BuddyPress does not create a link to the forum page in the navigation tabs.

If you are using Site wide Forums (bbPress 2), then you’ll need to create a link yourself. If you theme supports custom menus, you will be able to use that and it should be easy.
I am having the same problem. I have looked at various posts regarding this already. I must be missing something but…I have unticked the enable group forums, as I only want site wide forums – once done, this removes the forum page from the bbpress template pack. I have changed my archive slug / forum base to “support” and my forum slug to “discuss”. I have created a forum and the url is as follows http://www.meetinbradford.org/support/discuss/help-using-this-website/ ?which takes me to the post, but when I try to click the breadcrumb links to get back to the “support” page, I receive this error
“ERROR: You must supply the post ID to get the image from as an argument when calling the graphene_get_post_image() function.”
Using the custom links option doesn’t work either, I have tried
http://www.meetinbradford.org/support/ and http://www.meetinbradford.org/support/discuss but none seem to work.
So basically, I can get to individual forums but not the page behind it. I hope you can help.
Thanks mercime, what I have done is exactly the same as the instructions, apart from I’ve changed the slug names. I can actually get to view the post, but if I wanted to create a link to the forum, use a url to the forum, create a menu-heading to get to it – nothing works.
Do I need to create a page named “support” and one called “discuss”. i have tried this too but that doesn’t work either.
Do I need to create any pages at all?

I read somewhere that if you want to use only a site wide forum you need to turn off the forums component of BuddyPress. Then, the redirects will stop.
That’s what did it for me.
