Confusing members – Space in User Registration

    @marbler

    Hi folks,

    In 1.72 a new user is able tho enter a username with a space.

    They are unaware that their username’s space is replaced by a hyphen and can’t log in.

    e.g. John Smith on reg form, becomes John-Smith as a username.

    I’ve added the username in the activation email, but is ther a way to prevent people putting a space in the first place? I’ve tried various code out there but none of it works with the latest version.

    Some Q’s

    1) Ideally I’d like to have people register with their email address as their username. Any plugins/hacks that can do this?

    1a) Can usernames be editted at any point? Just thinking what if someone changes their email address down the road?

    2) I’d also like First Name and Surname included in the registration fields. What is the best way to do this and will this mess up existing registrations?

    3) Is there a way to send another email after the activiation email, for example a “Welcome to the site” email, which can include Username etc.

    Many thanks.
