Create a Site Forum

    @equalmark

    I have a fresh install of buddypress and I have also activated forums which WP MU told me installed fine.

    I would now like to create some forum categories in a similar way to they have on this site, however I cannot seem to find how to do this.

    It seems from researching posts here that I have to create a group, which then has a forum. However when I do this the group then shows at the top of the forums page rather than it showing in the topics area.

    I am confused! I would appreciate is someome that new what they were doing with groups/forums could definitively explain the difference, and how to set up the forum that I am looking for.

    Thanks in advance.

    Sorry for delay…http://twitpic.com/1c9ics

    There is a new column…owner/group…could that be relevant?

    The permissions are okay to me.

    What about if you manually go to mysite.com/forums/index.php or mysite.com/forums/install.php?

    Also you should try posting on the bbPress.org forums:

    It thought for a bit longer….then gave same “page not found”….

    Question: should I try removing Buddypress inlcluding all tables…and installing BBpress first?

    Edit: r-a-y – thanks for your tireless help! Suport ticket submitted on BBPress too: as you suggested

    I’m not sure if installing bbPress into example.com/forums/ will work, when using a deep-integration method of install, as BP usually uses /forums/ to load the Forum Directory.

    I think if the forums component is disabled or if you set the BP_FORUMS_SLUG to something other than “forums”, you should be able to access the /forums/ directory.

    I’ve successfully installed bbPress at /forums/ when I set the BP_FORUMS_SLUG to something else and external bbPress is also deep integrated.

    Also, I don’t think Craig is at the point where he can try a deep integrated bbPress install as he can’t even access the /forums/ directory yet ;)
