Disable Responses

    @ebellempire

    Hi, Finally getting around to testing this out. Great so far, though I think I will have a handful of questions and comments as I dig into things.

    My first is regarding Responses. Is there a way to disable them?

    I feel that Responses might complicate things unnecessarily, as there are already a number of ways for students to share feedback/questions, (e.g. direct messages, @mentions, comments, and forums, all of which seem easier to use).

    Thanks,

    Erin

    Not so far. But I will probably enable that feature in the next version. Btw, it’s really interesting that you find responses as a problem :)

    Hi Stas,

    I like the idea of responses, but the implementation seems a bit confusing in the context of all the other ways that BuddyPress handles messaging and comments.

    It might make more sense to me if they were nested and had a “reply” option, allowing for conversation of some sort, but then, that’s what BuddyPress already does in other ways.

    It would be nice to (optionally) redirect the responses button to send an email to the instructor(s), or to post to the forum for the assignment (if one exists; if not, perhaps allowing one to be created).

    Anyway, great work on this plugin. I’m just trying to anticipate places where I think students and instructors in my department might get hung up when we start our test run with this later in the year.

    Thanks — E

    By the way, I think I get what responses are for a little better now, after playing around some more. They are responses (i.e. answers or submissions) for the assignment, and not just messages, right? Makes sense. Perhaps some additional/alternative labeling would help.

    @ebellempire you got it! ;)

    Anyway, there’s forum integration for every assignment for your initial question, but I believe you found it already.

    @enkerli

    Thing about responses, if I understand correctly, is that they’re visible by the whole group, right? Had some students submit their assignments through that and other students could see them. Not really ideal, in some contexts. I’m all for open access assignments, but it can be difficult to convince students to work openly, like that.
    Any advice on this?

    Private responses are part of the Courseware since 0.1.5.

    There’s also a global option available for that.

    :)
